Iran to buy jumbo souvenir from Air France
Sunday, January 29, 2006
LONDON, January 29 (IranMania) - Iran is set to buy the Air France Boeing 747 jumbo that flew revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini back to Tehran from exile in 1979, a government newspaper said Sunday, according to AFP.
Sanctions imposed by the United States prevent Iran from buying Western aircraft, but the Iran newspaper said the plane was no longer fit to be used for commercial purposes and that the clerical regime only wanted it as a souvenir.
"After contacts with France, Iran is set to buy the plane that carried the founder of the Islamic republic the February 1, 1979, as the symbol of this magnificent day," the newspaper said.
The report did not say if a deal had already been signed, or how much the Islamic republic would pay.
Although Iran's US-backed shah had already fled the country when Khomeini returned from exile in the small French town of Neauphle-le-Chateau, the 747's landing is seen as the true start of the Islamic revolution.
Archive film of the landing of the 747, specially chartered for Khomeini and greeted in Tehran by millions of people, is still regularly shown on Iranian state television.
Ayatollah Khomeini went on to become Iran's supreme leader, and died in 1989.
It'd be a shame if it were accidentally destroyed by an errant missile, wouldn't it.
Not to worry, I'm sure the French already equipped it with chaff, bomb doors, remote guidance, and a white flag. (You never know)
I think it needs to have catastrophic engine trouble over the Mediterranean.
pong
Be a shame if the plane was "porked-up" a bit before delivery.
Souvenir my 4$$. They will probably outfit it first for hijacking practice, then, fill it with explosives or put a nuke on it and fly it to Israel.
"I can imagine symbolic sinister use for this plane."
It would hold a lot of WMD to fly into a target.
.
[Maulana Maudoodi] died while I was in Pakistan. But he didn't die in Pakistan: the news of his death came from Boston. At the end of his long and cantankerous life the maulana had gone against all his high principles. He had gone to a Boston hospital to look for health: he had at the very end entrusted himself to the skill and science of the civilization he had tried to shield his followers from. He had sought, as someone said to me (not all Pakistanis are fundamentalists), to reap where he had not wanted his people to sow. Of the maulana it might be said that he had gone to his well-deserved place in heaven by way of Boston; and that he went at least part of the way by Boeing.-- V.S. Naipaul, Among the Believers.
It wouldn't surprise me if most of the passengers on the flight turn out to be children.
"They will probably outfit it first for hijacking practice, then, fill it with explosives or put a nuke on it and fly it to Israel."
Yep. Those people have no conscience, and will simply use the plane as a, Trojan Horse.
Heck...France will probably pack it full of nuclear equipment, for all we know.
I worked in engineering firms with Armenians who had lived in Iran and got out when the Shah left.
They told me most of the technical class was foreigners like Armenians, and many of them left when the islamofacists took over.
No one has been able to rid the airframe of the stench...
And we can once again thank the French in their lust to assist the devil.
As I remember from a flight into Iran in 1978 or 9 the country already had a few 747's courtesy of the Shah. I doubt they gave them away.
Lol.
