Good morning once again, all you fellow political junkies. Put on a fresh pot of coffee, put the sticky buns in the oven, put a fresh battery in the remote control, and join us for the latest episode of the world's greatest daytime soap opera, "As the Democrats Bloviate." Yup, once again, it's that time...
More talking points at 9:45, I believe!
Well said.......the Republicans need to push this vote...NOW!
I'm tired of watching the Dims set the agenda....
Last I knew, the Dims weren't the majority.......
Sheesh...
thanks , I'll be all over town tomorrow ,...
... I'll duck into an electronics store that has a bank of TVs on
... btw , just think , later this year[or next year] we get to see this "process" again!!!!
"Princeton. Vanguard. Overturn Roe v. Wade. Presidential power. 10 year old strip searched. Loss of privacy rights. Turn back the hands of time." ---- that and "never make the girl cry."
I pray you are right.
I don't usually speak with "thee".......and doubt you do either. Showed your hand with that one, as you have all through this thread. If you had an intelligent thought, I would gladly read it. So far, I have not seen one. You're not doing the Dean Scream as you read this thread, are you?
I'm heartbroken. How will I go on?
Kennedy acted like the total (deleted) he is. He is a permanent drunk who's body is so pickled in alcohol he won't even have to be embalmed when they bury him.
Based on that blog, I pulled out the ones that haven't committed and their status in '06. I was curious, but perhaps with no surprise, many are up for re-election and a few are retiring (and/or have a few other issues (that I'm aware of). (sorry the formatting isn't better).

I can't see them filibustering over Alito. Those who can afford to jump up and down and scream that Alito is a Nazi and vote against him will do so.
The real fun will be if Bush gets to replace Ginsburg or Stevens.
Unlike before I've enjoyed Arlen during both judicial senate hearings, especially telling kennequidick off.
"I do remember a moving speech he gave when the partial birth abortion ban was being debated...and that was either theatre, or his heartfelt sentiment."
Theatre? Did you know that while the debate over partial birth abortion was raging, this was no theoretical situation for Sen. Santorum? At the time this was going on, his wife, Karen, was pregnant with their son, Gabriel. Gabriel was diagnosed with a fatal defect in which he would die shortly after birth. Their doctor recommended they abort the child. Due to their strong pro-life beliefs, they would not even consider abortion as an option. Gabriel was born twenty weeks into the pregnancy and died two hours later. In his short life, he was held and loved by his parents.
While I was very disappointed in Sen. Santorum's support of Specter's Senate campaign, I think it was more a case of poor judgment, which President Bush made as well. However, I think it rash to question Santorum's pro-life beliefs, or his pro-life credentials. He not only has talked the talk. He has walked the walk in extreme circumstances.
LOL. There were a few.
Wednesday, May 12, 2004If they have "proxy" votes in the Senate...wouldn't he have used that then?
Kerry Absence Dooms Jobless Benefits VoteKerry, the only senator to miss the vote, said he didn't come back to Washington because "we were told that no matter what would happen, [the Republicans] would change a vote in the Senate and they were not going to let it happen."
The bid to extend federal jobless benefits for an extra 13 weeks failed by 59-40, one short of the 60 votes needed because the cost would exceed last year's budget agreement.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (search), D-N.Y., said almost 130,000 New Yorkers exhausted their jobless benefits between December and April. Opponents note the jobless rate dropped to 5.6 percent and say the emergency aid isn't needed.
President Bush's campaign spokesman, Steve Schmidt, said, "Last month, John Kerry was pushing for the extension of unemployment benefits. Today, he had the chance to actually vote on that question, but was too busy playing politics when he would have made the difference in the Senate."

Democrats missed a good chance to try to defeat President Bush's competitive-sourcing initiative, which would privatize some government jobs, and unions are blaming presidential candidates Sens. John Edwards and John Kerry for missing the vote. ...At issue are Bush administration rules to let companies compete for government contracts to do commercial-like functions. Unions see it as a threat and Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski, Maryland Democrat, offered an amendment to a spending bill Thursday to block those rules.
The amendment failed 48-47, but Sen. Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, was on the floor ready to vote for it, which would have made the vote a tie. If Mr. Edwards or Mr. Kerry had voted, the amendment probably would have passed. Sen. Barbara Boxer, California Democrat, also missed the vote. The other Democratic presidential candidate in the Senate, Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, voted for the amendment. ...
Sometimes, showing up for a vote also gets a candidate in trouble. Mr. Lieberman annoyed some Democrats this week by coming back from the campaign trail in order to vote against party leaders and support the Republicans' class-action lawsuit reform bill.

May 20, 2003Last Thursday, when the Senate considered the House version of President Bush's global AIDS initiative, Kerry used a floor debate to decry a provision in the legislation that required 33 percent of funds to be spent on abstinence education.
"We should not tie the president's hands ... I will support an amendment to strike this earmark."
Later in the day, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) proposed just such an amendment. Kerry missed the vote on the proposal, which failed 45-52.

Last month, a proposal to extend unemployment benefits to jobless Americans -- which Democrats had championed for months -- fell one vote short of passage, while Kerry was campaigning in Kentucky.President Bush's re-election campaign jumped on the missed vote, saying Kerry was "too busy playing politics" to do his job.
But Kerry accused Republicans of "playing a game," saying one of the 11 GOP senators who voted for the measure would have switched sides to defeat it if he had been there to vote for it.
Then, last week, another Democratic proposal to make war profiteering a crime failed by two votes. Kerry was in the Capitol just a short distance from the floor at a meeting, but he did not vote.

Hmm. One of the mysteries of the Senate. ;-)
Specter is unabashed pro-choice. He rationalizes picks like Roberts and Alito on the grounds that they won't upset the pro-choice applecart.
Yes, Ted is a walking bottle of booze.
I've never heard of proxy voting in the Senate.
That he previously walked the walk and talked the talk is of little significance to me now. That he and Karen faced a difficult personal decision and chose appropriately does not erase his subsequent sell-out. By supporting Arlen, he demonstrated just how little he really cared about the unborn.
He sold the pro-life principle to protocol, political expedience, personal ambition. That is unforgiveable. GWB likewise disappointed me greatly. Ironically, the RNC just called me for money....I told them precisely where to go, precisely because of GWB and Ricky's actions.
Wow....I can't believe I asked a question that YOU couldn't answer....
but, I DO appreciate you posting the articles talking about Kerry's missed vote record..
Impressive, huh?? LOL
HE RAPED JUANITA BROADERICK AND YOU KNOW IT
What a creative thing to do!!
Helloooooo!!! (echo, echo, echo)
Where's the thread for day 2??
