Border face-off involved men in Mexican Army uniforms
CNN ^ | Jan 23rd, 2006

Men dressed as Mexican Army soldiers, apparent drug suspects and Texas law enforcement officers faced off near the U.S.-Mexican border after three suspicious SUVs attempted to flee state authorities, officials said Tuesday.

Andrea Simmons, an agency spokeswoman in El Paso, told The Associated Press that Texas Department of Public Safety troopers chased three SUVs, believing they were carrying drugs, to the banks of the Rio Grande during Monday's incident.

Men dressed in Mexican military uniforms or camouflage were on the U.S. side of the border in Texas, she said.

Men dressed as Mexican Army soldiers

Whose side is CNN on? Next they are going to use the "Men dressed as terrorists" metaphor. These are Mexican Army troops until proved different by the Mexican Government!

after three suspicious SUVs

Other articles reporting on this same very same incursion have described those SUVs as military Humvees. Not every Mexican druglord has a bunch of Humvees in the fleet painted to look like they belong to the Mexican Army. That would be a little too obvious.

maybe the Border patrol could get a few Bradley's.
Wait - the national guard already has them !!!
Wonder if the governor will deploy them.
Or even a few Texas Ranger's with varmint rifles.
Coyote's still got a bounty on them.

We say they're Mexican Army, the Mexicans say they're not. Thus if we shoot them, the Mexicans shouldn't throw a fit. We need to shoot a few and capture a few with their ID cards on them.

Those are all different news sources, and vastly different titles. It's reasonable to expect people to search for the identical story having been posted, but, IMHO, I prefer to see the story from multiple sources; I get more information that way. I realize some people disagree on this matter, but I don't think you can get on the poster for not searching. I personally only search for the exact title. If it hasn't been posted, it hasn't been posted.

I've seen individual FReepers complain about this, but never an Admin Mod.

The Mexican government, army, and police have always been deeply involved in the drug trade. Things don't seem to have changed one bit since Vincente Fox took over from the PRI. He's just as corrupt as the rest of them.

So, presumably the army was covering them. They don't do that for the little guys, they do it for the drug lords of Medellin when a shipment comes through.

Time to put a Spectre gunship out there, doing figure eights overhead, waiting for something like this so they can "take care" of it by conjouring up one of those Texas "dust devils".

And with M50 machine guns in military mounts. Sounds suspiciously like Mexican army to me.

While you are correct that the base article has been posted five times (including this post), each post was from a different source.

While World Net Daily, Fox, and some local paper may be news to us here at FR. Until it makes CNN and the NYT, it is not "news" to the MSM.

The story making CNN's on-line news is a significant step. If the article makes the NYT then it is gospel to the MSM.

While the DEM's and the MSM's (I know, redundant) may think this is an issue they can use against GWB, they fail to realize that he is not running for office on 2006. What the house (which has tried) and the senate (which has not) do is more important.

We captured about 10 of them a while back (maybe within a couple of years). The State Department threw a fit, and we just gave them back. No big deal...

I find it worse than appalling that our Government stands by and lets this happen. The Mexicans are committing regular acts of war. The inaction of our Federal Government (The Bush Adminisrtation) borders on Treason or perhaps is Treason.

I agree and I've had about enough of Bush's crap on this. Unfortunately, it will take a dead Border Patrol agent before a serious effort to deal with this is launched.

"We say they're Mexican Army, the Mexicans say they're not. Thus if we shoot them, the Mexicans shouldn't throw a fit."

Bingo. This was my first thought.

This issue is already long past the stage where a little "international incident" might be in order.
