Equally disappointing is the bungling of communication that occurred during Katrina. I am not holding the Federal Government responsible for the suffering, but I am making the point that the more you grow the federal Government the less it will actually be able to accomplish. I believe Mr_hammer's objection is to unconstitutional federal government growth during the Katrina disaster.
He has the conservative position on this by objecting to federal socialism.

You are very correct. People should not looked to the fed's with the exception of national defense. Infrastructure development such as roads, large bridges and airports would also be a place the fed's should be involved.
They should not be in the education business! That is a state issue.
This is my point, the more departments of "X" that develop the less the overall government can get actually accomplished with measurable results.

One other thing, that is why I said I don't hold the fed's accountable. That mess was a state issue and the leader's of LA blew it. They can ask for assistance from the fed's, but they themselves are in a nuch better position to actually know what there specific needs are.
