ENCINITAS, January 16, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) Many pro-life organizations use Christmas season sales of poinsettias to raise funds, but according to a US-based researcher, so do Planned Parenthood and other abortionists in the US. James Hartline, a Christian activist in California wrote to LifeSiteNews.com warning that the poinsettias decorating the churches and homes of Christians in the US could easily originate from a family-owned business that has been supporting abortion for decades.
The Ecke Ranch in Encinitas, California, supplies 70% of all of the poinsettias sold in the United States and the Ecke family is among the most generous supporters of Planned Parenthood and long-time political activists for the abortion movement. The Ecke family features prominently in the major donors list in the fall 2005 edition of the San Diego/Riverside County Planned Parenthood Newsletter.
In November 2005, the Ecke family were present at the dedication of the new Carlsbad California Planned Parenthood facility renovation for which they had donated $250,000. In gratitude for their life-long support, the facilitys directors gave the Ecke family a catered dinner to honour them for their support of abortion.
Paul Ecke, the heir to the three-generation poinsettia empire, said of his siblings' upbringing as political abortion activists, "As children, we licked a lot of envelopes, we made a lot of phone calls, we walked door-to-door to encourage people to vote. Among those causes, he said was promoting Planned Parenthood.
In an interview today, Hartline called for a boycott of the Ecke familys poinsettias. Hartline told LifeSiteNews.com that acting on this information could take millions of dollars away from Planned Parenthood in short order.
Well here is a link from the San Diego paper talking about it, so it would seem pretty difficult for them to dispute it.

Yes thanks I sent them the reference as well. It will be interesting to see their response if any.
When a business, regardless of its size, is family-owned like the Ecke's is, it is irrelevant whether the donation comes from the company or the family (in fact in most cases, accountants decide based solely on what is most tax effective).
Annual story.

Good to know. Forget poinsettas from now on.
Amazing how these people are so in darkness that they think they are doing good work by promoting slaughter of the unborn.
It’s banned now. Had a 2002 signup date, too. Trolls aren’t only noobs.
In the Fall, 2005 San Diego/Riverside County Planned Parenthood Newsletter, the Ecke Family entrees on the Planned Parenthood President’s Council major donor list to the abortion provider took up a good portion of the list.
Mrs. Ecke along with Paul Ecke III, Lizbeth Ecke and Sara Ecke May, to contribute $250,000 of the needed $340,000 for the renovation of the new Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic at 1820 Marron Road in Carlsbad
At the dedication of the new Carlsbad abortion provider, clinic staff honored the Ecke Family with a catered reception. While many of those in attendance chowed down on fancy food, some of the women there, gleefully reiterated their increased drive to support the abortion movement.
According to a Logan Jenkins column in the San Diego Union Tribune
The Ecke financed abortion clinic in Carlsbad will now be able to “service” up to 1,500 patients a month, twice the number of the old Planned Parenthood abortion mill in Oceanside, California.
Eckes will continue to profit off of the poinsettias being produced by Armstrong Gardens, because the Ecke name will still be used
Family matriarch Jinx Ecke was once again listed on the 2007 San Diego County Planned Parenthood President’s Council. The Council list was included on a flyer for Planned Parenthood’s annual “education” fund luncheon benefit.

Excellent. If I had tons of money I’d post some billboards - especially in the area of the poinsetta farm.
I'm with you on that. I've seen silk ones that I was hard pressed to determine that they were silk, they were that good.
Nice thing about that is, no killing it by forgetting to water it. You can just wrap it up in a plastic bag for next year. They cost about the same as the real ones and you can reuse it for several years. A real savings there.
Can’t do that if you’re Catholic, at least not on the altar, in vestibule or along aisles OK. Rubrics specify anything adorning altar or tabernacle must be natural. Our Sacristan even freaks out if you put a plastic ribbon around them. My understanding (although I’m ducking for the flames here) is that this includes Christmas trees on the altar: the evergreens are fine, but no lights, ornaments, etc. Again, if you must have for the kiddies, put in the vestibule, not the sanctuary.
The Catholic Churches always decorate with them at Christmas time. I wonder if they are buying theirs from these people. If so, they ought to stop. Better to have no poinsettias than funding for the most evil organization in America.
We have cats and can’t have live ones anyway. The cats like to chew on plants, and pointsettias are poisonous to them.
