QUOTE OF THE DAY: " THE PRESIDENT: I want to thank Secretary Rice and Ambassador Hughes for joining three of our nation's most distinguished business leaders here at the White House to discuss a very important project, and that's raising money for those affected by the storms and natural disaster in Guatemala and Honduras.
Ours is a nation that when we see human suffering, we respond, and we responded at the governmental level because we had our military help provide infrastructure and logistics and get supplies to people who were hurting. We helped through USAID. And now it's time for the private sector in our country to step up and support the efforts of those Guatemalans struggling to get their lives back together and those in Honduras doing the same thing.
The fund that's going to be raised is made up of private donations. People can find out more about it on what's called -- a website called hurricaneaction.org. I think the site went up today, if I'm not mistaken. It's a place for people to come and access and to find out how they can join other Americans as to how to contribute. The money will go for things such as education of displaced families or infrastructure rebuilding, with a particular emphasis on reforestation or on micro loans to help the economy get back on its feet in these countries.
So I want to thank you all very much for coming. I appreciate your interest. Thank you for traveling down to the region to take an assessment of the needs. And most importantly, thanks for coming back and calling our citizens to action. Appreciate it.
ENJOY YOUR VISIT TO SANITY ISLAND!
.
Howdy folks. TGIF!
Thanks for posting the dose.
;o)
Thanks for the thread and dose of sanity!
Hey, I have seen some really good photos of the President and Laura today.
As for Merkel, I read elsewhere on FR that she wasn't exactly supportive of the WOT and Gitmo. Know any solid info on that?
I admire how President Bush shows respect to others even if he doesn't agree with them.
Hiya Mike - thanks for the dose tonight!
Thanks for a wonderful "dose", friend.
Has anyone noticed that the "hate Bush" contingent in Europe and Canada is OUT. Conservatives are replacing them. In Germany it is a pro-American woman. This is happening even in the face of speech code laws and an absolute Leftist monoploy on the press. : )
From the Family Research Council in an e-mail received today.....
Despite all the huffing and puffing against Judge Sam Alito by Sen. Kennedy and others on the Judiciary Committee, public opinion seems solidly behind him. A random poll taken Jan. 10-12 by Public Opinion Strategies showed 70 percent of women and 71 percent of men said Judge Alito should not be disqualified from Supreme Court service, even if it turns out he is pro-life on abortion. Thirty-four percent of those surveyed claimed to be pro-choice on abortion. And even among these Americans, a 53 percent majority said Alito's position on abortion should not disqualify him. "Our poll clearly shows that a majority of Americans, whether they are women or men, pro-life or pro-choice, [Democrat or Republican], regular church attenders or [who] almost never go, do not believe a Supreme Court nominee should be disqualified if [he is] pro-life," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List which sponsored the poll. "The majority of Americans," she said, want judges who will interpret the laws "passed by the people and their elected representatives. They don't want judges making up laws from the bench."
All the RAT huffing and puffing was in vain.
As Charles Krauthammer said on Special Report tonight, "It was all over when Mrs. Alito wept."
President Bush has fulfilled his campaign promise to nominate Constitutionalists to the bench, and it is exactly what the American people want.
Off to watch a Hart to Hart with Mr. Oh.... Good night, all!
Good evening Mike thanks for the dose
Howdy all.
The German Chancellor Angela Merkel as pictured in the 5th picture of post # 11, is I think, my favorite one of her. I'm pleased to see her looking so pleasant and at peace. It is evident that she and George Bush hit it off okay.
