Now that is funny. (And not fake.)
I wanted to jump through my tv screen and start pounding on Smirky Schumer!
What a fool!.
The right to privacy that Alito acknowledged is the "specific" right to privacy in the Fourth Amendment, not the "general" right to privacy used in Roe. His answer was brilliant!"
You beat me to it. Good post.
"Judge Alito Proves a Powerful Match for Senate Questioners"
My 14 year old daughter would make a powerful match for some of these Senate questioners!
Not to cast any aspersions on Judge Alito, but against some of those Senators, a TURNIP would prove a powerful match.
Don't get offended. All I am saying is that Alito has had to do some backtracking on conservative principles and has done so.
I HOPE that he is saying what he needs to in order to get approved, and then turns more conservative.
After all, they can't fire him later if he suddenly decides that privacy is not a guarantee.
Nice gallery!
The almighty MSM seems saddened by the fact that Alito is going to make it.
Do you have the photo of the CNN anchorwoman who appears ready to cry the instant she realized that Kerry would not win on November 2, 2004?
That photo would be very appropriate.
Harriet Miers I still believe was a trial balloon to gauge what the left was thinking. The right already knew that the Miers nomination was going nowhere.
It also took us a couple of months closer to the midterms. Bush is timing all of this to maximize the Republicans chances in 2006. That's why Abramoff is a good thing coming out now.
The Dems are ecstatic that they have Abramoff to trot out in 10 months. Meanwhile Bush is plugging away. Once Iraq is off the table, the Republicans are going to go after the RATS on the Indian Tribes and Abramoff. Won't be good for Dornan and company.
Stay tuned.
Miers was not qualified. She would have made a complete fool of herself. It was clear from her intitial meetings with the senators. That's why she got pulled. After Specter met with her, he all but said she was in over her head. GWB made a totally boneheaded move, because he picked the picker. It really showed how helpless he is without advisors.
That's total buncombe.
The only thing that could torpedoe Alito now is if he gave Shumer the answer he deserves by mooning him.
Ooops.
"That's total buncombe."
Probably. I play the Strategery angle. You know, being part of the VRWC. :)
On the other hand, this Bushbot has a lot of respect for the way the man plays his cards.
Virtually all justices give strong authority to precedent and only overturn the worst cases they feel have been wrongly decided in the past.
If you dont think that a "right to privacy" (whether that has anything to do with abortion or not) is not implicit in the Bill of Rights, then you apparently need specific written directions to get out of bed and find your way to work everyday.
I think a lot of people look for explanations that don't involve acknowledging that the president screws up sometimes. I think he just screwed up. He picked the picker, and that left no fail safe to avoid what would have been a mistake. Initial meetings with senators, plus a total outcry from the best conservative advocates in the business, stepped in to fill the void.
LOL! I've had more laughs from FReepers today...and not just this thread.
:^D
