Top General Peter Pace Strikes Back at John Murtha...Finally
The Post Chronicle ^ | 1/7/06 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 01/07/2006 7:21:56 AM PST by RepublicNewbie

For months now, Representative John Murtha, Democrat from Pennsylvania, has enjoyed enormous positive press coverage ever since he began denigrating US military operations in Iraq culminating in his shrill call for immediate withdrawal of US troops.

Like gossipy school girls running to tattle on someone, the members of the mainstream news media scamper over to Murtha following every speech by President Bush on the subject of the Iraqi conflict. This is their new war hero of the year -- a war hero who shares their anti-American views, at least on the issue of Iraq.

When the media realized that Cindy Sheehan's circus was doing more harm than good, they needed someone new -- someone who would not be exposed as a dupe for the wacky left-wing of the Democrat Party. Once upon a time, they did not have to worry about their latest heroes being exposed as shills for the radical left. But now with emergence of talk radio, Fox News Channel and the Internet, that left-wing monopoly doesn't exist anymore.

I heard the exact comments and how they were taken out of place - somewhere this past Thursday.

A complete lack of integrity and honesty from Representative Mullah.

Wonder if Murtha, LtCol. Ret. (USMCR), even understands that he's getting a Dressing-Down from our Nation's equilant today of a Marine General with 5-Stars on his collar.

I realize that active members of the military have a difficult time speaking up for fear of running afoul of the service(s), but it's time someone put a stop to the motor mouth approach that Murtha, Kennedy, Kerry, et al have been using. At least with General Pace he won't have to worry about too many above him in the command chain!

I want to hear someone as Murtha, Kerry, Kennedy, etc. "Do you think that your statements aid or comfort America's enemies?" If we had anything like an objective press they would ask questions about the obvious use of their words by the enemy.

I saw Murtha and Moron on C-span doing a town hall meeting. Someone suggested that we immediately remove our troops and replace them with the Arab League, and the fools agreed that would be an excellent idea.

Until now, defenders of Murtha have said he was speaking out on behalf of the military. That Murtha was a great patriot, that top-ranking members of the military had urged him to go public with his comments, etc., etc.

The general's remarks should put an end to that. Like Cindy Sheehan, Murtha should have quit while he was ahead. The more the public hears from Leftists, the less it will like what it hears.

When the media realized that Cindy Sheehan's circus was doing more harm than good, they needed someone new -- someone who would not be exposed as a dupe for the wacky left-wing of the Democrat Party.

This is an excellent point, and explains why Rep Murtha has become the latest media darling. Still, for all of his strengths over Sheehan as far as a 'useful idiot', his weakness is that as a Marine officer, he's supposed to be held to a higher standard. General Pace intends to hold his feet to the fire, and make sure that Murtha can't hijack Marine Corps honor with his abberrant philosophy.

Rep Murtha has a right to voice his opinion, but if he's going to abandon his responsibility as a former officer to remain faithful to the Corps, then it's entirely appropriate for Gen Pace to call him on it.

"I heard the exact comments and how they were taken out of place - somewhere this past Thursday.

I heard the exact same thing on the "Tony Snow Show", yesterday.

Murtha has completely disgraced the uniform of the United States Marine Corps as well as himself and should immediately resign his position as a member of Congress. He should also be charged with treason, since his actions and comments have been repeated by al-jazerra and have obviously given aid and comfort to our sworn enemies.

Since I am confident that he lacks the personal integrity to do so, I won't hold my breath on that. I just hope that someone in the Department of Justice "grows a pair" and starts prosecuting those that engage in acts of treason.

I just love the Google-sponsored ads on that newspaper's web site. C'mon, admit it: How many of you downloaded the Bush desk clock and read the Wesley Clark op-ed?

And we really should refer to him as Rep. Mullah, not Murtha.

We've done the same thing with "Chucky".

In fact, the "Chucky" thing has been so successful it's spread to the MSM, either to criticize or use.

John Murtha "...one of only 131 people in the nation's history to have served more than 30 years in the U.S. House of Representatives..."........is a powerful reason for Term Limits.

There is no doubt in my mind he served as a exemplary Marine while in that uniform - however, now in his declining years has fallen victim to Washington politics and the need for one last campaign, this old soldier should have retired before he made a total fool of himself….he has lost perspective of what has made this nation so great; an ex-Marine who would leave his 'brothers' on the field of battle, Murtha would rather quit than win the peace. A very dishonorable stance for any soldier…………….

I've been noticing a lot of 'news articles' being posted from this Post Chronicle, and my question is - is this even a legitimate news source?

To me it seems like a glorified blog. They even have a disclaimer at the bottom of the home page that some of their 'news items' are copyrighted articles from other sources that has not been authorized for use. Then they say they accept NO responsibility for the accuracy or inaccuracy of "any" story or opinion.

IMO this seems pretty suspect and posting from it could open a legal can of worms for FR given the copyright jihad the MSM has against Jim Rob.

Where have you been? If it weren't for blogs like this, think you will find it in the MSM? - Free Republic is OUR conservative news paper as there are precious few news papers that print the consevative view. Post Chronicle may not be as visiable or refined as Power Line or Michelle Mallkin, but it is a fair source which can be researched.

(a Reuters story)

Where have I been? Right here.

And being right here I'm fully aware of the copyright war against FR and the legal battles Jim Rob has been through because of it through the years and the resulting excerpt requirements.

Also, IMO a blog that dresses itself with a name and appearance in an attempt to mimic a legitimate new source seems like something the left would do. Then to have that disclaimer that they aren't responsible for "anything", well that's a real beauty.

And if Jim Rob & the Mods think Post Chronicle 'news items' are ok to post as 'news' its fine with me. I just know now which 'news' threads to avoid now.

Oh, was there a point to your Rooters link? IIRC that article was posted here on the 5th

Whatever the value of the article as a "news source" the article obviously is editorial comment. Therefore it seems as fitting as the many other commentaries we read here.
