I think this is the story.

Oh goodie. That's NOT the one I saw, which means there's more dirt on Nancy!! Now, if I can just remember what it is. ;o)

From what I read on another post, looks like Miss Nancy may find herself in the Abramoff "quagmire" along with quite a few other Dems. Just makes me feel all squiggly inside!

Great, then let's have lobbyists, but they can only meet during business hours at capitol offices. No after hours socializing unless both pick up their own checks, no trips, no campaign contributions, no nothing. They can lobby based on their cause and ideas and the number of their constituants who support and send them to Washington.

I'd love to have them walk out their door each morning and explain to us why they voted on something, or against something. Half of them are never on the floor when they vote anyway, why can't they vote from a terminal at home? If they need to talk to each other, they can either meet via video conference or hold off until their two weeks in DC.

The court papers in the Washington case refer to Ney, saying that regarding SunCruz, the congressman placed a statement drafted by Abramoff partner Michael Scanlon in the Congressional Record. The statement, the court papers say, was calculated to pressure the owner of SunCruz to sell on terms favorable to Abramoff.

It's worse than that. The former owner of SunCruz was murdered by these guys in a gang style hit.

No matter HOW MANY DIMS are involved with this guy, directly or indirectly it will ONLY BE REPUBLICANS that get the proverbial shaft. Their OWN SHAME will take hold even if there aren't any indictments

The MSM is salivating!!!

I just hope that WHOEVER took a bribe gets the MAXIMUM sentence allowable under the law!!!

All of them should be fired, fined, but no jail time. This would make a great lesson for future generations.

Could somebody explain the difference in Abramoff and Soros?

Soros is not a registered lobbyist, Abramoff is.

And by that I meant to point out that the Bush Administration's Justice Department will indict any Congressmen or women of either party for whom they can identify a direct quid pro quo: a vote on an issue in exchange for money or gifts.

Using Abramoff money is no crime, pushing legislation in exchange for Abramoff money is a crime. Abramoff will name exactly who he bribed in exchange for 15 fewer years in prison. The proscutors in this case work for the Bush adminsitration's Justice Department. If Dems were bribed, they will be indicted. In the House, since Dems have no power, it is unlikely that they were bribed. The Senate may be a different story due to the 60 vote Cloture rules.

It will be interesting to see if the left tries to connect Abramoff with Bush in a way that lets them talk about impeachment some more.

How can the GOP effectively counter the bad publicity that's going to be generated?

By exposing Democrat hypocrisy in this nonsense, starting with the leadership position and working your way down. From what I understand, Harry Reid said he wasn't about to return the large sum of cash he received from Abramoff.

Both sides are entangled in the mess, and the ones worse off are those who won't return the money given to them or those who happend to cheer the passage of campaign finance reform. You add those clowns who signed off on CFR to the mix, and you've pretty much painted a picture of a corrupt Washington government.

Nancy Pelosi makes me ill. I can't stand to watch her. I really wish someone would find something on her - and soon!

There are a large number of tribal run casino's in California. I'm sure you could find even one connection between some tribe in California and Pelosi if you scratched the surface.

I'm sure they're working on it. The phrase of Pelosi's, "a culture of corruption in the Republican party" is by no means an accident. To me, that's when the proverbial door of opportunity opened for the media to take down the Republican party. We both know both sides have their hands dirty over this whole fiasco. But the average viewer out there who is wholly dependent on TV and print media, without a whole helluva lot of fact checking on their own or lacks so much as a clue, will get the impression the Republicans are the truly corrupt ones in this saga.

Which in some cases is not a bribe. (all depends on what this trip was for and where it headed)

What makes a trip illegal is if the Congresscritter doesn't actually sign off on the trip, and that document is inserted in the public record. (which is actually a Congressional rule).

That's what it was. There were some others who were caught with her, and I 'think' it had to do with some trips. IF I'm not mistaken, she was scrambling to file the paperwork, but not until after she was caught.
