~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~ Modern Times: What are your predictions for 2006? |
Welcome to the FReeper Canteen!
Next Wednesday we'll begin a new exciting series: The Canteen Kids will begin doing threads for our Troops and the Canteen!! So? Don't miss out the chance to see the next generation of Canteeners do their thing!!
As for this week, we shall return to an old favorite! |

Your Opinions Please

Main Topic:
What are your predictions for 2006?
Examples follow below:
1. The Cubs will win the World Series and tomkow will be forced to take a bath. (*snicker*) 2. Reggie Bush, of USC, will become the second most popular Bush in the state of Texas. 3. Our Troops will continue to get the job done at home and abroad. 4. Congress will yet again give themselves a raise. Just goes to show that creating a lot of hot air will eventually pay off. 5. MoJo will still hate eating tofu. 6. hotstreak will still hate eating cheese. 7. Outside of winning the World Cup, most Americans will still ignore soccer as a whole. See how this works?
Rules:
1. No politics! 2. Keep it funny, but remember this is a family site. 3. Graphics and pictures are great to share. Before we leave you, The FReeper Canteen, Mr.Tonkin, and MoJo would like to thank Spotsy for doing the Pancakes on Wednesday when someone was needed to fill in. She did a fabulous job. Despite having limited time, she made sure that our Troops had a thread every Wednesday. Thank you Spotsy! Don't stay gone too long!!
Have at it folks!!

I keep nodding off. 14 straight hours at my computer...intense. I'm not sure yet.....if I'm still sane at the end of the week....LOL! We worked Saturday and Monday trying to get a head start. I got a phone message Monday afternoon that most of my units hadn't turned in their second week because no one told them too......more hair pulled out. A couple things have already come to light that don't work so hot. Tomorrow will be the first run...it will be interesting to see how the reports work out.

I didn't do anything interesting like falling off a roof.
I did cause something of a ruckus in Lowes with an over turned cart in the mirror Aisle.
Minimal injuries including a banged heel and a shopping cart raked heel.
There were survivors.

14 hrs at the computer is a little much.
If things hold true to form. You will be bald my midday Wednesday.
Sorry you have to be mired in this.
Wishing you very good luck.

Soldier's Care Package
a soldier ^ | 4JAN06 | Marie
Posted on 01/04/2006 12:45:04 AM PST by Marie
FReepers, I need some help. My husband is stationed in Iraq and he's sent me an email of all the things soldiers are moaning for.
Is there any way we can get together go great care package for the 1st Sgt (my hubby) to hand out? Any suggestions as to how I am supposed ot go about doing this? (Take it easy on me. I just got out of the hospital yesterday!)
Here's the list:
Jerky
Sunflower seeds
All types of tobacco (cigars, chew, cigarettes)
Magazines (fitness, guns, cars, cosmo, guy stuff. I need one or two people to take care of the girls... Cosmo, etc.)
DVD players with all the required plugs, cables, etc.
Books
Sheet Sets (NICE, new ones! They're grateful for what they have, but sleeping on faded, worn, sailboats and flowers is not making them happy) Bottom sheets, especially. They're tucking top sheets into their bunks.
Homemade stuff (cookies, popcorn balls, candies, etc.)
Now for the really big one... comforters and quits. Are there any ladies out there who would be willing to donate?
They do NOT need junk food or candy (poggie bait). The mess hall is wonderful. They just need some homemade goodies from a loving "mom".
Overall, they are well taken care of, but what I hear most is that they miss home. (and tobacco!) They need some munchies and some comfort.
OK, People. Two hundred Fort Hood, D Company, Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division DRAKES are sending up smoke signals. How do we respond?

PINGing my Usual Suspects List , Cindy.
I'd like to amplify a few somethings:
If you're sending stuff that needs power, MAKE SURE it works on 220-240 volt current! The good ol' US of A 110-volt stuff will burst into flames if we plug it in without adapters or power converters.
Along with tobacco, another thing that's needed is LIGHTERS. They tend to run in short supply in theater.
We have massive amounts of paperbacks here, but I need to second the motion of magazines, especially mags with a specialty, like hunting/fishing, sports, fitness, etc.
And as I've stated other places, back off the junk food.
