Apologies if this is cross posted on the wrong board...

While surfing around yesterday, I saw this post... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1547014/posts?page=1,50

I got to thinking, which was a big mistake cause it started me crying. You see, I've lost more than 7 family members to Cancer...the most recent was my sweet Niece. She was only 31 and left behind 2 awesome little boys, and devastated my Sister, as well.

I have friends that have lost loved ones too, and some that are still living in fear of the day that the test comes back with bad old news...again.

Smile is a friend of mine. She is still living that nightmare with her son, Dylan. Here is a before pic of Dylan. I cropped out most of his frail little body, what body he had left...

Dylan has benefited from research, and was given treatment that wasn't available in the beginning of his 6 year ordeal. Treatment that was the direct result of on going community based research.

YOU, and EVERYBODY READING THIS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

The post I saw put it all in perspective for me, I can make a difference, I can do something to to help, to make sure I lose no more Nieces or family, that YOUR family can hopefully lead a longer fuller, healthier life.

THANK YOU Texas_Booster for opening my eyes!

Today, Dylan leads a fairly normal life, except for his every 6 month visits to the clinic for the feared testing.

But, in between those visits, THIS is how Dylan looks today...

Please, join the FREEREPUBLIC.COM team and donate your spare cpu time to help fight, not just, Cancer, but other terrible afflictions also.

Go and read the post, and then join up. After all, if the DU crowd can do it, so can you!

Wow papa, didn't know. Seeing Dylans pics makes me even more glad I'm a small part of this team. May God give us the power to help him.

Yeah, depending on the size and time it takes to fold your WU, it could take a day or so...but it's worth it. I was just beside myself when i finished the first one.

:O)

I won't give up! Actually...the console binary just made my Linux box unresponsive and I had to reboot it remotely. I "think" there's an X client though and I'll try that one. :-)

This makes the 3rd good reason to join...

1. It helps kids like Dylan
2. It's good clean geek fun
3. It rubs the dummies the wrong way, that we're smokin' to the top...

thanks for sharing that.

Wow, that is a very moving tribute to your friends' son, Dylan. I am glad that we can be a small part of the much bigger picture of medical research.

Unitl systematic got the ball rolling in November the Free Republic Folders was just a couple of FReepers and whatever systems I could cobble together crunching work units. After systematic started advertising on a Thanksgiving thread we started to grow and have completed several hundred work units in just a month. He deserves the shout out today.

Papasmurf thank you very much for helping us keep our eye on the prize of advancing medical research. And if this spurs on Daily Kos and Democratic Underground to a healthy competition with us, even better.

Blessings for a Merry Christmas and a terrific New Year.

I really hope that you downloaded the Folding@Home agent not the SETI BOINC agent. Trip over here to download:

http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

And remember it is team 36120.
