Wavering Reid - Monday, December 19, 2005 @ 3:44:47 PM

"My personal opinion is it was a shameful act for someone to disclose this very important program in a time of war." President Bush said that this morning in discussing last week's NYT plant about the NSA monitoring al Qaeda operatives and al Qaeda sympathizers by way of Presidential order. But he might as well have been speaking about any number of "strategic" leaks by Senate, CIA and other operatives interested in making political hay and embarrassing the United States.

Over the weekend, the media noted that Sen. Harry Reid had been strangely silent about the latest revelations, and we're hearing there was good reason for this: he was attempting to find out if the leak had come from within offices that he had oversight of control over. "We got the impression that he wanted to jump onto this things early on Friday, but he held us all back from talking. We were hearing that he wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be any blowback on him," says a Senate Democratic leadership aide.

I posted this on another thread today:

"...after the effort to renew the law was filibustered last week, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid exulted, "We killed the Patriot Act.""

Today on the floor of the Senate, Reid tried to place the blame for "killing" the Patriot Act on President Bush.

Senator Gregg from NH stood up and quoted Reid's words back to him, telling him that he sort of sounded like a guy in NH who killed his parents and then asked for mercy because he was an orphan. Gregg asked Reid, "Senator, are you an orphan?"

Reid danced around a bit, and then Senator Kyl got up and also read Reid's words back to him and asked him point blank which was true, did Reid kill the act or did Bush by not compromising?

Reid, obviously nailed, went into a long babbling tirade about maybe no getting such a good education in Searchlight, not being lucky enough to go to private schools like some in the Senate, blah blah blah. Reid then said if Bush didn't agree to a 3 month extension, Bush would kill the Patriot Act, to which Kyl responded, "Well, how about a year long extension."

It was unreal to watch.

There's some real, selfless, patriotism for you there. [/sarcasm]

IMHO, any AMerican citizen in touch with and collaborating with AL Quida should be hung from the yard arm. Monitoring their communications should be an intitial, small step toward that final end.

Harry Reid gives new meaning to the term "Hypocrite."

He did the same business on the talk shows yesterday, carping at the administration's conduct of the Iraq war then when asked point blank what his alternative strategy or "plan" would be, had no answer.

Also priceless when Chris Wallace nailed him about the Abramoff contributions...

Reid may be in a lot of trouble real soon.

Bush did a good job today...he was animated and natural and serious. I wish he would be even more direct in naming the members of the group, politicians, press and such that wish for defeat of America believing that it serves their narrow political interests.

Next time come out swinging and name names!

betcha it was the guy who ditched his plane 2 or 3 times in corpus christi bay that did the leaking. and the reason that Murtha is being so sheehanish is to cover up his political "favors" to friends by throwing his political weight around.

My cSpan had something else on.... what happened after that exchange, I never heard?

BTW, I received an email from Wilderness Society today asking everyone to call Senator McCain to get him to twist arms on the defense spending bill and kill ANWR... so, it's official, McCain is definitely the darling of the far left loons.

"Reid had better hope it didn't come from his office."

When the most important and biggest city in his state, Las Vegas boasts of anything goes and anything you do stays there, is there any doubt as to his veracity?

It reminds me of Earl Long when he was Governor of Louisiana instructing an aide in how to respond to an irate supporter that had been promised a job in exchange for a large contribution, after the position had gone to another contributor. "Just tell him the truth, I lied."

It's obvious to me from the President's comments today that he believes the leak came from Capitol Hill. That's why he sounded so strident about that as well as about the Patriot Act. I think it may have finally dawned on him that we really do have some treasonous traitors in the U.S. Senate.
