Hollywood receives a lethal rejection

Celebrated author of children's books (and alleged quadruple murderer and co-founder of the Crips gang) Stanley "Tookie" Williams, was executed last week. Many Hollywood activists wept as the Shel Silverstein of San Quentin was denied clemency and given a lethal injection.

There's no getting around it – the Hollywood Left is losing what's left of their whiffle-brained sanity. Virtually every single one of Hollywood's recent pet causes, from political candidates to environmental issues to unjust convictions, have had the same effect on public opinion that "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" had on theater popcorn sales.

Couple this with falling box office, and we've got the makings of a full-fledged Tinseltown meltdown that has them close to marching, lemming like, off the edge of the Hollywood sign.

The Hollywood Left is now proof-positive that, with the exception of college professors and certain congressional liberals with gerrymandered bellies, you can be wrong only so many times before people just stop paying attention for any reason other than sideshow entertainment.

It is no accident that the recent spate of leftist Hollywood social-cause strikeouts coincides with theater ticket sales that have fallen to their lowest levels in well over a decade. Hollywood muscle is suffering atrophy, leaving them barely able to lift their own egos anymore.

Hollywood activism is dying, but has no intention of going without comically apoplectic outbursts coupled with desperate eye-poking and random slaps – like the Three Stooges sinking in quicksand.

Long gone are the days of Hollywood's "success" stories. Hollywood's perceived victory over Joe McCarthy and his blacklisting of suspected subversive communists is history. It was to be the last "win" for subversive communists for quite some time.

In the early '70s, general consensus had Hollywood being right about pulling out of Vietnam, so they started getting cocky, and went after Nixon. The one they called "Tricky Dick" ended up resigning, and the halcyon days of the self-importance of Hollywood activists reached masturbatory levels.

Since then, however, it has been all downhill for the likes of the Yoda of leftist actor-Jedi, Ed Asner – not to mention Rob Reiner, Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon and all the rest who are qualified to play first-chair snivelhorn with Martin Sheen and his All Bohemian Orchestra.

Just look at the track record for Hollywood causes in the past few years:

--For the last couple of decades, many celebrities have petitioned presidents and others to release from prison, or at least get a new trial for, Leonard Peltier, who was convicted in 1975 of killing two FBI agents. Peltier is still using soap-on-a-rope and padlocked briefs to this day.

--Hollywood liberals also oppose drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Environmentalist actors freaked over the thought of drilling in the pristine setting of Alaska. Robert Redford speaks out regularly on the subject, pointing out that property like that should only be used for mansions and ski lodges. In spite of protests from the celluloid elite, small areas of ANWR will soon be full of more holes than Barbra Streisand's logic.

--In 1998, celebrities from around the world signed a petition calling Kenneth Starr's investigation into Bill Clinton's perjury an "inquisitorial harassment by a fanatical prosecutor." Clinton was impeached soon after.

--A couple of years ago, some actors signed a petition asking U.S. senators to vote against a plan to bury the nation's nuclear power waste at Nevada's Yucca Mountain. The petition so impressed Congress that they voted to start dumping nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain (Robert Byrd voted against it when they refused to rename Yucca the "Robert C. Byrd memorial to Enrico Fermi").

--Hollywood backed Gore and Kerry big time. Both campaigns ended up as the political equivalent of Nick Nolte's mug shot.

--This of course brings us to Hollywood's arch-enemy, George W. Bush, who went to war in Iraq, chapping more actors' behinds than the director's cut of "Brokeback Mountain." The Iraq invasion inspired the creation of "Artists United to Win Without War," a movement spearheaded by the Hollywood rich and famous, as well as Mike Farrell, with the goal of ending imperial American occupation of a sovereign nation in need of a hug. "Artists United to Win Without War" have been soundly defeated by "War United to Win Without Artists".

--Hollywood's voice of dissent is hoarse, and their last shot at glory went down the drain with Arnold Schwarzenegger's denial of clemency for the Dr. Seuss of Death Row. This was perhaps the swan song of Hollywood activists, who all but hopped up on the table with Tookie.

We can only hope that the guy in charge of final meal requests at San Quentin has an account at Spago.

Uhm, why is the author still saying "alleged"? Tried, convicted, conviction helped up in appeals lasting a quarter century. Sheesh.

Note also with the advent of the computer, people are getting the real stories and observing the real H'jerks in action and giving them widespread rejection at their antics too.

It's "alleged" from the standpoint of Hollywood activists... which is how I took it, as evidenced by the opening "celebrated children's author" line... Tookie wasn't that to anyone outside H'wood, either...

S-A-R-C-A-S-M.

There are a few on the left that said that "Tookie" was wrongfully convicted and even used the word "alleged" themselves.

It makes me sad when I want to see a movie but don't go due to the politics of the actors in it. I don't go very often.

Add Debra Messing "Will and Grace" who makes snide and utterly snotty remarks about Bush and his policies.

That one did make me flinch but all was forgiven with this observation.

"The one they called "Tricky Dick" ended up resigning, and the halcyon days of the self-importance of Hollywood activists reached masturbatory levels."

;D!

"Celebrated author of children's books (and alleged quadruple murderer and co-founder of the Crips gang)"

I think it's sarcasm. Williams was not a "celebrated author of children's books" either - I never knew he wrote a book until Hollyweird started agitating about it.

This is wonderfully descriptive - desperation coupled with lunacy.

I bet there is some BIG ski slopes on the ANWR. Leave it to the Hollywood types promote the frost bite capitol of the World as prime real estate. I know I'm going to invest right away.

---Celebrated? Alleged quadruple murder? Normal people do not celebrate the lives of murderers. As far as "alleged" goes, he was proven guilty in the court of law. It is a "dead" issue.

Oh, I think they've turned it around now that we have gay cowboys. That's what theatergoers the country around have been waiting for...right?

Susan Sarandon?

Isn't she the actress who always plays the aging whore?

How does she get media play?

LOL!

He saved the best for last.

Honestly, I have trouble watching politically motivated actors.

All I can think of the whole time is what a wanker he/she is.

The twins' birthday required seeing the last Harry Potter movie. The only one I have any desire to see is Chronicles of Narnia...but we'll probably wait for the DVD. :)
