Ehrlich, O'Malley Internet Saga Continues (MD4Bush)

The Internet posting saga that led to the firing of an aide to Gov. Robert Ehrlich has turned 180 degrees with the revelation of a possible Democratic tie, the Republican governor said Saturday.

Ehrlich, appearing Saturday morning on Baltimore radio station WBAL, said "there appears now to be a sophisticated, or was a sophisticated operation, put together by a number of folks connected with the Maryland Democratic Party, and maybe a candidate or campaigns, and their purpose was to go on the Internet and trash major Democrats, which is fascinating.

"I don't know who thought this grand scheme up, but the facts keep coming out and we don't know where this is going to end,"said Ehrlich.

The possible Democratic ties were revealed by the Web site, free republic.com, where Ehrlich aide Joseph Steffen posted rumors about the personal life of Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley, a Democrat challenging Ehrlich next year. Steffen was fired after the postings were reported by the Washington Post.

However, after the firing, Republicans including Ehrlich's lawyer said they suspected Steffen was tricked. They said they thought a Democrat may have lured Steffen into posting unprofessional comments, then leaked the exchange to the press in an effort to embarrass the governor.

O'Malley said Friday that he does not know the identity of MD4Bush but that he and his wife would thank whoever is behind the online identity for exposing what he called "the dirty tricks henchmen employed by Governor Ehrlich on the state payroll."

Ehrlich said he couldn't understand O'Malley's response.

"That's weird. It's strange, it's inexplicable," Ehrlich said. "I don't get it. I just don't get that. He's praising the person who went on the Internet to repeat rumors that have been around for years and years and years."

These people are using 'posting' improperly, and thereby distorting the story.

WBAL is actually WGOP. As a conservative from NYC you may not no that. It is the most one-sided news media outlet in existence. Even more so than Fox.

Early on in the MD4Bush affair I searched on Josh White of MDDems and Josh White of the Washinton Post. I doubt they are the same person but I didn't find anything definite that they weren't.

Probably it is just wishful thinking on my part, but wouldn't it be delicious if it was the same person!

Us folks from New York are just plain stupid when it comes to understanding the Baltimore media market. Thanks for the enlightenment! I always thought the Baltimore Sun was a fair and balanced newspaper that just reports the facts! I heard the Sunpapers refuse to talk to Governor Ehrlich because he said the only thing Nitkin brings to the paper is his skin color... no... wait... Maybe it was the other way around!

Perhaps you need to look at the proper yardstick to determine what one-sided really is.

I was just re-reading this:

Ehrlich, appearing Saturday morning on Baltimore radio station WBAL, said "there appears now to be a sophisticated, or was a sophisticated operation, put together by a number of folks connected with the Maryland Democratic Party, and maybe a candidate or campaigns, and their purpose was to go on the Internet and trash major Democrats, which is fascinating.

Is it just me, or was the governor intimating that this goes far, far beyond the work of one Ryan O'Doherty (or whoever MD4Bush is).

Go back and read the MD4Bush threads and when you come across posters agreeing or augmenting the rumors click on their names and their comments.

They're were many.

It was orchestrated.

I read O'Malley's comments this way: D-O'Malley would like to thank the person who orchestrated and delivered this trap, and to remember the check for services rendered, is in the mail.
