McCain says ban "torture," because it worked on him.
Ban McCain. I would vote for Hitlary before McCain.

Bush agrees, but I'm certain that the blame will be heaped on McCain by his rabid FR haters...flame away.***************
Gladly. Where to begin?
1. He's not a Republican.
2-10. Same as above.

No, but giving terrorists the same rights and privileges enjoyed by US citizens is.

A pollster asked me if McCain and Hillary are the presidential candidates, which one would I vote for.....He was surprised when I shouted "NEITHER OF THEM....EVER".
To: Howlin; meandog
You forgot to include how he "dissed" the Swift Boat Vets and before that the families of the POW/MIA from Vietnam...
I also think that he knows personally for SURE that torture does sometimes work....from what I hear, it worked on him...

I recall that the White House had said they would veto...but johnnymecarino pointed out that the vote in both houses would override a presidential veto...sigh

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this bill only ban government workers from "torturing", I thought recently we had started hiring outside security firms, etc., to do all our "torturing"?
To: saveliberty
McCainaic on the loose. Can't we dump him and tell him he's really a Dem? Maybe trade him for Zell Miller or even Lieberman.

I am sorry, I just posted to someone and mentioned your name..(misspelled), but didn't put your name in the TO: spot.
I don't know which is worse, not to ping you, or misspelling your name...so please forgive both, OK?

And spend the next two years explaining why you vetoed body armor for the soldiers "you put in Iraq." Not too bright.

I don't think either of us truly accepts torture as a rule, because you can't assume a person is a terrorist, even if signs point to it.
It's not my perception that we're breaking arms or pulling fingernails off. We're using mind game techniques that may include sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation and sophisticated manipulations. I don't see that as a problem at all.
What I see coming out of the left in our nation and the world's leftists leads me to think they're just playing a propaganda game, and their actions bear no relation to sensible tactics.
Our is not a nation of butcherers or torturers, and it's ludicrous to implicate that it is.
John McCain should know better, and the Bush administration would do better to stand up to him and educate him, rather than acquiesce. This would serve to inform others. Instead we act like McCain was right. I don't buy into that.

Makes me wonder how the Repubs expect to stay in power when they are so spineless.
Anyway, here comes McCain, glowing from the awesome success of his Campaign Finance Reform bill, which allows billionaires like Soros to sway elections.....now with an equal winner....a bill to insure terrorists are treated extra nice.
That should have the terrorists spilling their guts. Lack of previous success was the failure to say "please" and "thank you" by the interrogators.
And yes, Bush is weak in failing to stand fast on a veto. The Repubs are weak in fearing to vote against yet another McCain Lead Balloon bill.

I don't think it is, I think it is basic human rights.
Anyone detained for any reason in our custody should be treated humanely, period.
That doesn't mean you need to serve them tea and cookies either.

"this is insane for the White HOuse to capitulate to idiot McCain."
My thinking too. It doesn't matter whether the bill has any teeth or not. The point is that it will be viewed as a tacit admission of having done wrong.
Bush is no Reagan.
To: meandog
McCain is a RINO! And he wants to run for president??? Lord, help us!
To: johnmecainrino; Howlin
McCain is solely to blame for this. People that blame Bush for this are missing the point. The white house wanted nothing to do with this. They sent Cheney out to stop McCain saying it was infringing on executive authority. McCain said he would attach the torture ban to every bill until he got his way. The house had a test vote yesterday with over two thirds support. The White House was beat by McCain. McCain had the votes to overcome a veto. The White House is just using this as as face saving. The president has no power when congress has the votes to overcome his veto. Gully, uh, ah sho' wud lack to be an 'merican hero lack John is...but, uh, it wud mean ah haf to be accountable for mah actions and, aftuh all, ah was tankin' up on alcohol, nose candy, missin' mah scheduled Guard drills, an gettin' arrested for DUI when John here was in, uh, the Hanoi Hilton after fightin' for his country.
