SYDNEY - A suspicious fire at a Sydney church hall early Wednesday and shots fired during a Christmas carol service heightened tensions as Australians braced for more racial violence between whites and ethnic Arabs.
Four men were seen near the Uniting Church hall, which is next to an Islamic centre in the multicultural suburb of Auburn, before the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning.
"I've been in contact with the police this morning and the police are treating it as suspicious," New South Wales state Premier Morris Iemma said.
Asked in a television interview if the blaze -- finally contained after two hours -- was related to the recent race riots in the Sydney suburbs, Iemma responded: "It may be".
Dozens of people have been arrested and injured since Sunday in the nastiest racially-motivated unrest in Australia for decades, prompting authorities to deploy hundreds of extra police officers to avert further violence.
Also in Auburn, a Christmas carol service at a Catholic primary school was disrupted on Monday evening when men of Middle Eastern descent fired shots into parked cars and verbally abused parents and children.
No one was hurt in the incident, which was condemned by Sydney's Catholic Archbishop Cardinal George Pell as "apparently motivated by religious intolerance".

I'm waiting for them to start burning cars like in France...
the police are expecting more riots this weekend,. In the meantime - if it had been a mosque set alight by Christians - well you can fill in the blanks....
MMEA's....This is not about race...

Funny how this sort of violence so often pops up with Middle Eastern types around. Funny....
what is not really funny at all is the mindset of these people, muslims i mean. look at it this way, australia has how many muslims? id guess 1 or 2% perhaps, yet they are courageous enough to take on the 98% other. factor in your aboriginal types and your pagans and wiccans, a few jews here and there and you still have just a few muslims taking on over 70% of the rest of the population. these numbers really do tell the entire story of their attempted conquest of christianity. imagine we had 20% muslims here, i tell you, every church would be gone, and we would all be waking at 5 am to go to prayer.

A masked man believed to be one of Asia's most wanted militants, Noordin Mohamad Top, has warned Western countries, in a video found last week by Indonesian anti-terrorist police. The video also showed three young suicide bombers who killed 20 people in attacks on restaurants on the resort island of Bali on October 1st, 2005. On the tape, one of the three said they would be in heaven once the tape was aired. REUTERS/Bejo Winangun
In relation to waiting for further outbreaks of incited violence, Aussie police should begin rounding up 'the usual suspects'.
If France had previously taken precautionary national security measures maybe the rioting would not have happened or been so widespread and seemingly well organized.

Sure is a good thing the Aussies surrendered a lot of their gun to the government. I'll bet they feel so much safer now.
Auburn, Michigan? Multicultural???
Won't happen... The Aussie police will be out in full force to protect every mosque in the country. More christian churches may be burned, but they'll make sure that there is no retaliation against the muslims. The Aussie government is acting like dhimmis.
I'm waiting for the Aussies to start torching mosques. It's only fair, after all...
