Dems hope turmoil will topple GOP rule

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- If Florida Democrats are going to engineer a turnaround next year, it looks as if they'll use a page out of an old Republican playbook to do it.

Five years after President Bush rode into office on a promise to restore integrity to the White House, Democrats gathered here this weekend for their 2005 convention are rallying around a similar cry.

Truth and honesty have emerged as central themes, with party leaders promising several thousand delegates that they will topple what they describe as an unethical government in Washington.

Democrats in Florida think they can capitalize on the turmoil plaguing Republicans -- from the indictments of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby to lingering accusations that the president misled the country into war.

"People are really shaken. I mean, their confidence in government is really shaken," said U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston. "I think there's a tremendous resonance across the country.

"It's painting us a rainbow all the way to victory next year," she said.Party leaders say there's already plenty of evidence that Democrats are gaining ground.

Fifty-seven percent of voters disapprove of Bush's performance, according to a new AP-Ipsos poll, and Democrats recently won governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey, the two biggest prizes of the 2005 elections

I wonder when Bush is going to showcase the 1.7 metric tonnes of enriched uranium, enough for one bomb, that was brought in from Iraq?

It's quite likely that the voters in 2006 will be fed up with it.

Oh yes you can, once it's safely stored you just roll camera -- photos will make a nice backdrop to a speech. Since the MSM buried the recovery, lots of the people don't know it was in Iraq.

...though it might help if the Republicans try to run on a conservative agenda again and also try to convince voters that they're serious by legislating that way for a change.

I agree. It reminds me of being a kid listening to the propaganda on the shortwave from Communist Bulgaria and Romania. Relentless, monotonous and cold-blooded. Reporters are just bottom-feeding scum.

Big f'n Whoop! They didn't gain by winning either race, they merely retained the seats they had.... The scales remain balanced, nothing won, nothing lost.

Not an exact match (the thread and the comic), but I finally finished it and this is as good a place as any to post it.

Dems always hope for turmoil, and try to develop it.

Anyone remember what election 2000 was like? Throw the country into turmoil, when you don't win. That's their only hope.

Truth and honesty do not describe anyone on the dimbocrat party. That's like saying el schneeck miester had ethics when he was in the WH.

Sorry, Ms Debbie Wasserman Schultz, but you are out in a cold, dark and stormy night. Strange things happen after the start of the story.
