Ford, gay groups to discuss ad pullout
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 12/9/5 | Wyatt Buchanan

Ford Motor Co. executives will meet next week with leaders of gay rights organizations to discuss the automaker's decision to pull advertisements for its Land Rover and Jaguar lines from gay publications, a Ford spokesman said Friday.

"We look forward to the dialogue with the leadership of the gay community," said spokesman Mike Moran.

Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, said the group would ask Ford to explain why it dropped the ads and encourage company officials to reconsider.

The meeting between the automaker and leaders from 19 gay-rights organizations will come one week after those organizations issued a joint statement decrying media reports of a "confidential agreement" between Ford and the conservative American Family Association. In May, the foundation called for a boycott of Ford because of the automaker's sponsorships of gay events such as Pride celebrations, donations to gay rights organizations and diversity workshops for managers that included sexual orientation training.

The association also called for boycotts against Walgreeen Co. and Kraft Foods for those companies' sponsorship of the Gay Games.

I hate it when the left does this kind of silly sh*t and it doesn't make me any happier to see it done on the right. I should also add I HATE organized boycotts. Only mindless little sheeple need to be told where to shop. The rest of us make that decision based on many factors.

Cost vs Benefit

There probably aren't enough people who fit the "buyer" profile who read gay magazines and publications.

Ad money previously put in gay publications would be better spent on publications with wider circulation.

So are gay rights activists arguing they have a right to ad money in their publications for stuff they aren't going to buy? Do they have a right to force companies to keep their favorite magazines in the black because it is politically correct?

How long till the gay community starts insisting that bookstores carry gay books that don't sell, just because the author or content is gay?

The more I hear about the American Family Association, the more I like them. They really seem to get results especially in their defense of Christmas.

Ford, gay groups to discuss ad pullout

It's probably just me, but there's something disturbing about listening to homosexuals discussing a 'pullout'.

Glad to see Ford sees the light.

Only 1-2% of the population are "gay" and I guarantee you they don't make up the bulk of Ford's profits.

The founder of Ford would be turning on his grave if he knew his company would single out perversion and cater to it - homosexuals. They are perverts and should go back in the closet if they refuse help.

The only thing mindless was your response.

Do you need to receive instructions from "higher up" on what products you should buy? Are you really that stupid and uninformed?

"The only thing mindless was your response."

Not too original are you? It figures ... your kind isn't that bright ... . Liberals are the dullest bulbs out there.

"Do you need to receive instructions from "higher up" on what products you should buy? Are you really that stupid and uninformed?"

As a matter of fact, my "instruction" is from "higher up" and I'm not ashamed of that fact. As to what products I purchase I DO DISCRIMINATE. I refuse to purchase products or services knowingly directed to perverts. There is so much to chose from that I don't need to buy THOSE products.

It is YOU who is beyond "stupid" and "uninformed". You revel in it. You're too "stupid" to accept there is an Authority that someday YOU will account to - that is VERY STUPID.

Hey, let Lesbaru have em.

Even if Ford straightens itself out ... I still wouldn't be caught dead in a Ford. Quality isn't in their production lexicon.

Not to get in the middle of a pissing match, but how does one get informed to be able to make these decisions? I saw no news story about Fords pro-gay advertising. I'm glad there are people out there letting me know whats going on (thats why we are all here isn't it?) and I can choose if I want to join an organized boycott or not. Only when people of like minds act together will huge companies like Ford, Lowes, Macys, etc listen. Its just like the dc chapter of Freerepublic, they inform you of whats going on and ask you to join their protests.

I've got a really silly idea: How about we all just let companies make up their own damn minds about where they advertise, what they say to their customers on their signs, how much they want to pay their employees, and so on.
