BTW: Do they even follow their budget anyway?

My guess is that they function similar to any other government, which means that no, they do not follow their budget...there is no one to hold them (or other governments) to sticking to their budgets. What percentage of nations are currently, or have been in deficit? My guess is pretty much every single one.

Good Point. I know nothing about how the UN functions. I'm curious if any action at all could be taken by the UN against a permanent member of the security counsel for not paying "dues"? Couldn't we nullify any type of sanction and just veto any kind of punishment imposed by the UN?

That being said, considering Kofi's insatiable lust for US dollars (and/or a percentage of the US GNP)....I fully suspect some "groundbreaking" reform plans in the near future. That is simply too much money NOT to have access to.

I agree, I do expect some sort of bone to be thrown out, and of course it will be done as if it hadn't been compelled but was something they were planning all along.

iow - the UN wants money without accountability, sort of like families who have been on welfare for three generations.

> The farce called Kyoto is an example of the wealth redistribution plans the UN has

More likely, control of the Internet and a tax on email, web commerce; tax on foreign exchange transactions.

If we did quit, the financial crisis would become very real. Countries would pack up and go home. Peacekeepers and aid could be paid for and sent directly without corrupt officials taking their cut.

The real farce is the "World Court" at the Hague. Think that will wither and die? No, it will persevere courageously no matter what happens in New York.

Money talks and bullshit walks.
All that money for nothing. Nothing but paper and more paper.

Somehow shutting down the UN would not be defined as a crisis in the real world.

I think we have to find a way to move this beyond griping on right-wing boards and get action. This multilateralism has not lived up to its advertised benefits for First World nations, i.e. world peace and a reduced need for military expenditures.

Time to count it as a well-intentioned, failed experiment. I am making a similar post on FreeDominion (Canada's sister Board to FR).
