GOP leaders demand answer (Kalifornia)

Leaders of the California Republican Party, still smarting over Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's choice of a longtime Democrat activist as his new chief of staff, have demanded a meeting with Schwarzenegger - and an explanation.

"We disagree with the decision," Duf Sundheim, party chairman, said Tuesday. "We thought it would be beneficial to meet with the governor so he can explain to us in person what he did."

Schwarzenegger infuriated scores of Republicans last week when he chose Susan Kennedy, a former Cabinet secretary to recalled Gov. Gray Davis, as a replacement for outgoing Chief of Staff Pat Clarey, a moderate Republican.

In addition to having worked for Davis, Kennedy is an abortion-rights activist and a former executive director of the state Democratic Party.

"I'm pretty strongly against it," Keith Carlson, a lawyer in Irvine and GOP board member, said of Kennedy's appointment. "The spirit of the recall was to oust Davis and his cronies, and now one of his cronies is back."

At a press conference when he announced the appointment, Schwarzenegger said Kennedy promised to put aside her Democratic "philosophy" and work to implement his vision and policies.

No, I don't think he ever will. Not that I'm not mad ... I am.

BTW, that's because he's a fiscal conservative.

Maybe.

Remember that once upon a time people wanted to amend the Constitution so a certain "foreign born" person could run for President ?

Had Arnold gained some steam it would have been a legitimate prospect. It did not turn out that way. He is a fiscal conservative ... it's just that so many here voted for him on shear name recognition.

He is a fiscal conservative ...

His record is in direct opposition to that statement.

He will have no choice if he grants clemency to Kookie Williams.

But he is a product of Hollywood so no social conservative.

After all, when he was just a struggling body builder he would pose naked in those sodomite body builder/muscle magazines.

Conservatives are watching closely to see who Schwarzenegger nominates, presumably by the end of the year, to the seat on the California Supreme Court vacated by Janice Brown, who was appointed to the federal bench by President Bush.

They're also waiting to see how Schwarzenegger rules in the next few days on the clemency request by condemned murderer Stanley "Tookie" Williams.

Yep, we're all waiting. And the tea leaves don't look good.

The RINOs are demanding an explanation? That's like a bank asking a robber to explain why he robbed them. Sorry but in politics, when you appoint a Democrat your COS, the appointment IS the message. Duf Sundheim appears to be too dense to really get it. I mean someone puts a knife in your back and you still smile. How utterly touching!

Just wondering - What are Hewitt, Medved, Prager and those other party hacks on their little network saying about this? Remember how viciously they shouted down any conservative who dared oppose this socialist airhead?

Let me guess: They're not saying anything and are spending the week making fun of Howard Dean.

Sure. A "fiscal conservative" whose only real difference with Democrats is that he wants to borrow money instead of raising taxes. In the new year we'll see how long that last distinction will hold. ROFL!

Given the terrible election showing, he may just bail on the Party and run as an Independent.
