Anti-Flag Burning Const. Amendment

77/194 = Democrats in favor (40%). 209/221 = Republicans in favor (95%).

Doesn't proper flag etiquette REQUIRE that old and tattered flags be burned to honor them?

A good, telling summary.

With politicians it's; "Don't listen to what they say. Watch what they do!"

Don't confuse facts with feel good legislation.

Necessary reading for all the people who keep saying there's not a dime worth of difference between the two.

Here's the clincher: at least the GOP is willing to take people like Rep. Pence, Tancredo, and others. The Demons would probably try to Arkancide these kinds of candidates.

"Private Property Rights Protection Act

157/193 = Democrats in favor (81%). 218/220 = Republicans in favor (99%)."

Heh. There might be hope yet for these @$$3$.

Yes. Here is a page with some girl-scouts retiring an old flag.

Usually it's some cretin who is stomping on the flag while it burns while shouting anti-American BS. There is a proper way to retire a flag, and their way is certainly not in the spirit of patriotism.

The difference between a firing squad and a vigilante shooting is in the procedures, the ceremony involed, and the intent.

Whereas one is to execute formal legal justice, the other is an informal act of justice and/or retribution. Burning the flag to retire it is not the same as some smelly hippy @$$#@+ committing arson on a national symbol.

That said, I am unsure about this amendment. WWFFD?

The difference, of course, being the political intent of the person doing the burning.....What the Founding Fathers wanted to protect.

Absolutely. Still, if this amendment was approved, the aforementioned @$$#@+$ could still come up with creative ways to insult our country. Heck, being the filthy garbage they are, they could taint the flag just by being within 1 feet of it.

If this amendment is the right thing, they are taking the wrong approach. Instead of making it just for malicious burning they should make it cover all desecration. Maybe even extedning it to replicas of the flag (ie 51 or 49 stars). Again, I'm not sure this is the right tact. But they are most definitely taking the wrong approach.
