A young Philadelphia girl who suffered from Spina Bifida is dead, and police have charged her mother's boyfriend with her murder.
Twenty-four-year-old Horace Watters of North Philadelphia is charged with murder. Police say he beat his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter to death because the disabled girl wasn't potty training fast enough. Chardae Jackson held the heartbreaking reminders of her little girl Chardaisah, a young girl who suffered from Spina Bifida yet didn't let it get in her way.
Chardae Jackson/victim's mother: "There was no limitations to what she'd do. She was the best." Four-year-old Chardaisah died Friday morning. An autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head. Her mother's boyfriend, Horace Watters, is now charged with murder. It was Thursday when Chardae arrived at her North Philadelphia home from work and within minutes saw her daughter suffering a seizure on the bed. Paramedics rushed Chardaisah to Temple Children's Hospital where she underwent surgery to try and relieve pressure on her brain. She couldn't survive her injuries. Police say Watters beat the little girl to death because she wasn't potty training fast enough.
Mona Jackson/victim's grandmother: "She was just a lovely person... I have no granddaughter left." Friends and family are helping Chardae deal with this tragedy. The young mother says her daughter's death hasn't hit her yet. She knows it will, but right now she's trying to be strong. Chardae Jackson/victim's mother: "She was everything to me. My pride and joy. The reason I go to work everyday. The reason I function everyday." Funeral arrangements will take place in Maryland where most of Chardae's family lives

I'm real impressed with mommy's choice of boyfriends. As far as I'm concerned, she's every bit as responsible as him. Too bad the law doesn't see it that way.
I saw this story on the television this morning and even though I've witnessed similar cases, I still don't want to believe it happens.

All too often juries buy the babe-in-the-woods routine. If there is a conviction, she'll do 3 months in the can and 3 months in a halfway house while he goes away for 25 years.
I'm sure as hell not defending the system, I think it sucks that women usually get a free ride or close to it.

Yea, but it gets worse in "Domestic Violence" actions, where "harrassment" is alleged. Though it is a real problem, a vindictive woman can really play the victim and screw the man in a divorce/child custody action.

As she is told to do by society. I am so disgusted with what is out there on the magazine racks and, I assume, television stations of this world. When I look at these magazines at the supermarket when I am checking out, I am completely dumfounded - none of these starlets are married, they all have children by various people or even some they have adopted, and are busy cycling through other "live in lovers" at the same time. Fortunately, most of their boyfriends spend so little time with them and have so little contact with the children that they never have a chance to beat them to death.
These dumbos - like Chandrae, the mother - are getting this message from our society. I'd bet Chandrae didn't have a father, either.
It may be their fault in the immediate sense, but you can't blame somebody for getting lost if they don't have a map. We ditched our map in the 1960s.

that seems kind of unfair to the mother. at this point, it appears that the mother and grandmother loved the girl.
if it turns out the mother allowed the guy to abuse her daughter, i will agree with you. but the article doesn't give any evidence to suggest that.
