The scary thing is, he could probably win.

Just when I didn't think there was a publicity stunt available that could make Ray Nagin look competent, they found one!

Talk about the lesser of two evils. Mercy...

I don't know. I'd heard that mostly just the merchant class has returned to town.

The rental areas are destroyed and the Government handouts will probably be continued where ever people ended up.

But this guy would certainly help the city down the road to a poverty cycle again. No one would take N.O. seriously ever again.

He lost the race but won several thousand votes from progressive voters.

I suspect most of those people will not be returning to the big sleazy anytime soon.... but I wonder how they will handle absentee ballots for the election? There will probably be more of those than actual voters going to the polls.

One statistic that I heard during the Katrina disaster...that the
percentage of N.O. residents dependent on kidney dialysis is
10 times that of the national average.

It would be interesting to hear why this is so...

the percentage of N.O. residents dependent on kidney dialysis is 10 times that of the national average.

It is a cultural thing. Life style choices including poverty, lack of education, and abysmally poor dietary habits/desires, compounded by a willful mentality that resents being told what to do ... and refuses to take instruction, even when it is for their own good ....

This is not a racial thing. It is a cultural thing.

Not all poor people eat poorly. Some poor people are not ignorant, they are just poor. They choose their food wisely and cook their well balanced meals at home. Their choices keep them relatively healthy. They also walk or participate in other forms of exercise [gardening, for example, where they actually grow their own vegetables in a little patch of yard]; and maintain relatively healthy lifestyles despite being poor.

Others, are too lazy to do anything for themselves, including earn a living or prepare a well balanced meal for their families. They subsist on salt drenched, fatty fast foods, with no vegetables [french fries don't count!] and no fruit. They become morbidly obese, their bodies cannot function properly and their kidneys fail.

Regrettably, there are children in the second described group who comprise one of the unhealthiest segments of our society and who are suffering from Type II [adult onset] diabetes in staggering numbers at young ages [9 or 10] because of their obesity.

The public schools in this nation are much to blame for the poor dietary habits of the nation's children. They have soda dispensers and candy machines in the schools and they feed them sugar laden pastries for "breakfast", pizza, hot dogs/hamburgers and french fries for lunch instead of a balanced, nutritional meal.

Our nation faces a a looming health care crisis of unprecedented proportion because of the detrimental dietary practices of these families.

The local police and Red Cross officials are still investigating the theft of a large amount of medical supplies which occurred just as Rahim was setting up his "clinic." Moreover, one of Rahim's "suppliers" has been questioned by police, after having direct contact with the suspected perp.

-----Yep. Just what they need is another Mayor that thinks it's ok to take whatever they want and not do a damn thing to earn it. Blind leading the blind.

"We spend more money to build a tunnel under Boston than to save our entire wetlands."

Well, talk to your leftist buddies Kennedy and Kerry about that one, dude. This guy is a riot, what a moronic race-baiting twit. Nagin and Blanco should be doing time, but if this guy were in charge he'd be worse, not better.

Not to mention that it was the squandering of money on "saving the wetlands" that caused the levees to be neglected in the first place.

Well, not neglected. The Greenies didn't want the levees at all. The Corp of Eng had to fight to get them as high as they did.

The Greenies wanted "wetlands" and they got them -- in spades. And idiots like Malik can't even figure out that much.
