George W. Bush has had a good week. Just how good it turns out to be depends on how good he wants it to be. He started the week on the border in the West, at last addressing the domestic subject most on the minds of everyone else. He talked semi-tough on immigration, promising, finally, to take seriously the bleeding border with Mexico. Then he lapsed into his familiar rhapsody about the amnesty that he won't call an amnesty. But his speech to the Class of '06 at the U.S. Naval Academy about what must be done in Iraq was straight, plain and delivered with the bark on, no asterisks, no dodgy footnotes, no loopholes, and none of the selective emphasis that rendered his immigration speech an unexploded shell. "We will never back down, we will never give in, and we will never accept anything less than complete victory," he told the cheering Middies of the first class to graduate since the Islamist assault of September 11. Strong stuff, and enough to send the San Francisco Democrats into full swoon with Jack Murtha, the Pennsylvania congressman who sent girly-man hearts aflutter a fortnight ago with his demand that President Bush cut and run. The first to flop onto the fainting couch with him was Rep. Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democratic minority in the House. "I'm endorsing what Mr. Murtha is saying," Miss Pelosi said, "which is that the status quo is not working and that we need to have a plan that makes us safer, our military stronger and makes Iraq more stable. I believe that a majority of [Democrats] supports Mr. Murtha."

They are just remembering and using the lessons they learned from Vietnam. That a war that is winnable can only be lost when Politicians start thinking they know more than the Commanders on the ground.
Rangel, Murtha, Kerry and company are now the Politicians trying to make us lose.
Last Friday outside Walter Reed hospital, a leftist insulted me while I was holding an American flag. I replied that I had served for that flag, and asked if he had -- already knowing the answer, of course. But I was still surprised by his reply.
He sneered, "No, I'm not a murderer!"
Keep in mind, he's a member of the leftists holding a "support-the-troops prayer vigil" outside the hospital.
Perhaps for those expecting him to sprinkle magic fairy dust on the border and instantly solve the problem. But many of us view it as a much needed first step, and I've been pleased in hearing Sec. Chertoff further discussing the details. Yes, there are parts of the plan that need improvement, but I do grow weary of the "all or nothing" mindset around here.
Here is an e-mail I sent to my representative. We should all send e-mails to our representatives in the hopes we can get Rangel to apologize for his offensive comment.

Unfortunately Tom Davis is a member of the "Main Street Republicans who accepted $50,000 from George Soros, and then returned the money just shy of 1 year. This was also the group that killed drilling in Alaska, and they also tried to sink the deficit reduction bill recently passed in the House. Their website would make any conservative cringe.
Tom Davis voted against removing ANWR from the bill. He was not one of the 25 republicans who removed ANWR from the bill.
I have to think this drive to succeed, to lead America to Victory, to make us safer, is why so many troops are re-enlisting.

Terrific letter, I will write to my congressman, who happens to be running for senator now, with the same message.
We hear story after story of military men who are going back for their second or third tour. They are proud of their abilities and in manly fashion
believe that they are the best person to do the job
and
want to be part of the solution!
This is an attitude to be praised, not diminished.
Lefties really do not understand exceptionalism -
unless it is in Hollywood or professional sports.
Yep, Rangel's words (as presented) are so vile that we should ask for confirmation.
Unfortunately, the pessimists have much more evidence to support their arguments - starting with Reagan's Amnesty in the 80's. We've been getting two decades of smoke. Give us some tangible evidence that this issue is getting something other than empty words and perhaps we'll come round. But until then, it's hot air.

Thank you to your son for continuing to ensure my freedom. The McCains and Murtha's of the world may be vets, but IMHO they are also traitors to our men and women who wear the uniform today.
As to all those remarkable enlistments for the money & educational benefits...READ the data Mr Rangel...again, it's not what you think... It's a pay CUT from what they could've expected in a civilian career. And here's another little catch. No place in Combat Zone to spend those bonuses...re-enlist...still in Combat Zone...no place to spend the money either. And here's a huge shock...the soldiers have to get home ALIVE to spend it.
Mr Rangel, would you be interested in a job without the perks of Congress? Would you be interested in a job that placed you in harms way? Would you be interested in a job that you knew could in a second leave your family crying in grief over you? Funny for someone who speaks so glibly, the sound of Rangel's silence is deafening....
He also said the following:
Perhaps the wasted years at Harvard, where aspiring masters of business management learn to reduce everything to cold beans for the counting, blinded him to how emotion, not mathematical theory, is what moves men to great deeds.
I do believe President Bush went to Yale, and not Harvard. If Pruden is going to trash President Bush he could at least get his college right.

I had the same initial reaction, but W did go to Harvard Business School where he Earned an MBA. Harvard does not give them away to C students!
I believe that a majority of Democrats do support cutting and running like their Congressman Murtha. I believe they should ask for a vote on it again. Maybe Congresswoman Pelosi should propose a sense of the Congress on "That the U.S. Army is Broken, and that we should Immediately abandon the war in Iraq".

Bush got an MBA from Harvard. But he's still an idiot to the lefties.
