I would argue that even in the case of Truman Capote (!!!) that though he was very short, had a very high lispy voice, and had effeminate mannerisms even as a young boy, he waw NOT completely predisposed to being a lifelong homosexual. He lacked a strong positive and steadily-present male relative in his early years. In spite of all his determination and talents, he also lacked the will and the moral absolutes within his character to discipline himself. His drug use and and his homosexuality reflect character FLAWS.

He could have done more than just dance with Marilyn Monroe if...

Pretty good stuff. I also try to avoid using the terms homosexual or gay. It is simply inaccurate and enabling to those who pursue a deviant lifestyle. It takes more words, but it is more accurate to say people who engage in homosexual activity.

I think you're missing the author's point. He is stating that society never recognized a homosexual demographic group, as is done today. It HAS consistently recognized that homosexual behavior is immoral and deviant behavior, just as any other sin is such.

It is a very interesting article. Father Kendall Harmon at Titusonenine posted it yesterday. The comments over there make for interesting reading.
I have long argued that substituting of the word gender for sex had more than just linguistic consequences.
