CNN Apologizes for X on Cheney's Face Wednesday, November 23, 2005 (11-23) 08:55 PST New York (AP) -- CNN has apologized for a "technical malfunction" that briefly flashed a black "X" mark over the face of Vice President Dick Cheney during the network's coverage of a speech on Monday. The "X" flashed twice, on the air for a total of one-seventh of a second, CNN said Wednesday. The incident caused a brief sensation on the Web among people suspicious that it was a political commentary. But CNN said some of its machinery had a "momentary glitch" and no human operator was involved. The "X" is something used by a computer to mark a space where one visual element is to segue into another, and is normally not seen by a viewer. The network likened its appearance to a computer that inexplicably freezes. "We obviously regret that it happened and are working on the equipment to ensure it is not repeated," the network said in a statement.

A reasonable response. Well said.
But my mouth is still foaming at the chance to kick the libs some more. I just think it's understandable with all the hatred and vitriol they display towards us, that many are justified in condemning the left for every blatant, low class and tasteless manuever.
The left just got away with it for so long, they feel comfortable with these acts.
Now, we're all over them.
In all honesty, I encourage the response. Club the snake the second it peeps it's head out from under the slimey rock and all that.
But your dignity is still appreciated by those who still recognize what that is. Sadly, I think that group does not include the left.
I for one do not think anyone is "over the edge" on this one. As a vet, I feel the VEEP was shown contempt and disrespect. It is another item in the long list of anti- Americanism CNX. I am sure Al- Jazeera thought this was great.
After asking several people who watch TV as a hobby, no one has ever in 40 years seen this.
Of course, I am old fashioned and I still respect Old Glory too. This segment should have been reviewed responsibly. Bravo Sierra Meter Pegged!
I was stunned, too. They think they can get away with anything! That's why I don't just agree, I encourage the outrage (frothing at the mouth...)
We've seen the hatred and vitriol that has fermented among the left in this nation explode over the past 5 years. I say every time they try to push us, we push back twice as hard and give them a good swift kick as well.
CNN had their cake and ate it, too. They didn't fire the idiot who did this.
If we don't call them on it, they'll do far worse.
is that caller in to CNN real?
The Bush administration has no backbone when it comes to the media.
1st, when at daily news briefing if any snot nosed puke reporter gets out of line they should be refused entrance to any other.
Hell, Helen Thomas treats any news conference like a forum to attack the administration.
Oft times many other "journalists" or unAmerican pukes only try to embarass or attack officials.
2nd when a radio or t.v. station does nonsence3 like this, either fess up or lose access or lose your air space, the hell with them.
Love to see c.n.n. thrown off the air along with n.p.r., just to see the libs howel.
never mind, the tape is real, they fired the CNN guy who took the call...
UPDATE: 6:18 PM, PT 11/23/05: Call Authentic, CNN Fires Rep:
I just got off the phone with Laurie Goldberg, Senior Vice President for Public Relations with CNN. Her statement confirms the authenticity of the tape recording and reveals the actions CNN took after learning of the incident:
"A Turner switchboard operator was fired today after we were alerted to a conversation the operator had with a caller in which the operator lost his temper and expressed his personal views -- behavior that was totally inappropriate. His comments did not reflect the views of CNN. We are reaching out to the caller and expressing our deep regret to her and apologizing that she did not get the courtesy entitled to her. "
That's the claim:
If this was a computer glitch, why not mention that they have contacted the equipment/software vendor and a service bulletin will be posted on that suppliers website? In the mean time they are waiting for a software patch ensure this issue never happens again.
Furthermore why not offer to run the Cheney speech again in prime time?
The "X" can be recreated. They lied.
CNX for evermore.
For those who argue this is silly, I would submit to you that bringing this kind of activity into the spotlight naturally pulls all the other on-air antics from the MSM into view and solidifies the arguement that the MSM is biased. A picture is worth a thousand words.
"No Spine Zone" O'Reilly on the today show.
"F this S" 2004 Election coverage showing Bush widening the lead.
"Nigger Innis" Caption for Black Republican Niger Innis.
Phony Documents
Rearranging Omitting content to change context
Bald Faced lies
Slanting the coverage
etc...
It all adds up. As circumstantial as this piece of evidence may seem, what was CNNs first reaction? It was a computer glitch and can not be recreated. Fox recreated it. CNN LIED. That was their first response. If they'll lie about this what else will they lie about? That's really the point.
This is honestly one of the best posts I've ever had the pleasure of encountering.
I am so happy right now. I hope fox runs with this one.
I see you are still at your great work, hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
< Honestly, I don't think this is a big deal. It looks like some workplace horsing around that got loose. >
If it was FNC and the subject was not Cheney, but John Kerry, would it be a big deal?
Yes, and the Dimbulbs would already have had the producer and the technician fired AND it would all be a conspiracy by Bush, Cheney and Haliburton.
Now, was it "horsing around"? Yes it probably was, but the above comparison makes it a big durn deal.
...and may I extend the same to you, and yours.
