A prominent member of the Kennedy family is joining forces with one of President George Bushs most ardent foes Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.
A subsidiary of Venezuelas national oil company will ship 12 million gallons of discounted home-heating oil to Massachusetts in a deal that former U.S. representative Joseph P. Kennedy II helped to arrange.
The $9 million worth of oil will go to 45,000 low-income families and institutions that serve the poor, such as homeless shelters, said officials from Citizens Energy, an organization founded by Kennedy in 1979.
When the oil arrives next month, Citizens Energy will help screen recipients, according to the Boston Globe.
Home-heating oil prices are expected to rise significantly this winter because of higher crude oil prices. But "some foreign-policy analysts said Chavez helped broker the deal in part as a jab at President Bush, according to the Globe.
Chavez has frequently criticized the Bush administration, saying it is not doing enough to help the poor. He has called Bush an "assassin, "Mr. Danger," and a "crazy man.
"It is a slap in the face, to the Bush administration, said Larry Birns, executive director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.
"Chavez is involved in petro-diplomacy.

Human rights groups have accused Chavez of curtailing press freedoms and criticized his treatment of political foes. But Kennedy told the Globe he was not concerned about Chavezs politics: "You start parsing which countries politics were going to feel comfortable with, and only buying oil from them, then there are going to be a lot of people not driving their cars and not staying warm this winter.
Citizens Energy Corp. is a nonprofit organization. But the Kennedy family has extensive oil interests, author Peter Schweizer reveals in his best-selling new book "Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy."
According to Schweizer, "oil deposits have generated tens of millions in profits for the Kennedy clan
In total, family revenue from crude oil and natural gas is more than $1 million a year.
The biggest hypocrite of all is that bucktoothed granola goober Joe.
What's up with this?!
Even the Boston Globe did an investigation about Joe Kennedy's little "charity" several years ago. Surprisingly, the Globe published it during the scandal involving the late, unlamented Michael Kennedy and the babysitter. Michael was raking in $$$ - the high six figures - from this enterprise.
Let him discount his oil. It will only lower prices for everyone. Of course, that screws his own people.
I wondered about the possible connection when I first heard it. I urge all FReepers to boycott Chevron Texaco gas stations.
Ugh, Oh!.. the swimmer is swimming money.. this hypocrisy could get out..
"WHO IS" the offshore account paying for this and hiding the money from TAXES.?.....
How do you really feel about it? LOL!
Hey, did Robert Kennedy mention his family's oil holdings during the global warming special on Fox last week? He didn't? Gee, guess he just forgot.
Blood Oil!
"Is buying heating oil from venezuela against the law?"
No, but most of us here do not appreciate profits going into the pocket of an idiot dictator. So perhaps you could take your own advice.
um.. oil is a commodity.
The more oil we can buy below the standard price, the better.
He'd just sell the same oil elsewhere at a higher price.
True, but Chavez is using it to gain support for his dictatorship. It is a bribe.
WHatever. It's not like Chavez is going to have trouble selling that oil. Might as well bring it in cheap, take advantage of him.
First off, Joe isn't buying anything with his own money, the whole scam is part of the low-income gov. heat assistance program. Bill written by old Ted the LARD. He(JOE) gets over $650,000.00 a year to manage tax dollars???That's why he left congress, when the babysitter molester kiss a tree at high speed. Maybe you should read up on the subject.
Hugo Chavez owns Citgo. How does boycotting Chevron Texaco help?
You are correct. Apologies.
LAURENT MURAWIEC, Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and author of Princes of Darkness: The Saudi Assault on the West, explores why Saudi Arabia is a dangerous enemy to the western world.
The author was interviewed on the Rodgers and Morgan KSFO show.
He sounded very convincing to me when Lee Rodgers asked him to talk about the Saudi cash flowing to Carter, Bush 41 (The Carlyle Group connection), and Clinton. Bush 43 appears to be clean.
Yes, I know the left screams about ex-President Bush. But the author nails Carter and Clinton.
Remember former FBI director Freeh's account of Clinton "understanding" why the Saudis could not let the FBI investigate the Colbalt Towers bombing in their kingdom -- but the Saudis were then asked to contribute to the Clinton Lie-bury?
Oh, for cripes sakes. How many of these damn Kennedy's are still around?
If Chavez wants to give away oil, fine. Let's follow the money trail and also make darn sure not a penny of heating oil assistance goes to these folks.
