The vote tally proves the Democrats were pressuring everyone to vote together so their talking points would have more strength. Voting present was the only excuse most of them could muster, and I think three refused to go along.
I'm wondering if they ran some quick internals and got the bad news that the only people who saw Friday night as a failed Republican stunt and a voted down "Republican" resolution were the goobers over at DU. It was a loss and a huge one.
Timmy even took care to point out that the Democrats were NOT backing Murtha and even showed quotes (with photos) of Pelosi, Kerry, and I think Reid saying they disagreed.
The one thing I will credit Murtha with is when Timmy tee'd up him to say Bush lied in order to deceive the American people into war, he said no, he didn't deliberately mislead us--exaggerated maybe, but not blah blah blah. That could really make the Rats turn on him. Unless they're afraid we'll force a vote on who wants to put their name on record as accusing our POTUS and CIC to be a liar. ROTFLMAO.
Out of the mouth of a Capt B, a fellow Marine serving in Iraq: "Holy Crap Bat Man I could write a whole Blog entry on Sen Murtha. He came here in Iraq a couple months ago. Praising us for what a great job we did. He visited places out west like Haditha and told the Marines there we are going to let you finish what you started as I listened. He probed about requirements and gear and moral and was somewhat disappointed that we had what we needed and kept asking well what do you really need trying to find a problem. HE defiantly just pissed off a majority of the military now and has gone 180 degree from what he was saying and preaching about Finishing the job when he was face to face with us. He has been to Iraq ONCE for 3 days. Everything he is saying now is exactly the opposite of what he was saying when he was with us. He makes sound like he is a front line troop as he speaks. He is two faced and I have seen it first hand standing in front of him as he spoke to us. This is a very sad ploy by the democrats and will do nothing but hurt our troops."
Great post, and correct. Everyone has to remember the strategy the left is following, and their goals.
When some 2000 professional anarchists and antiwar activists start vandalizing in streets in Venezuela, the network and cable channels go live for hours showing them.
But when 250,000 citizens staging a mile-long peaceful protest against terrorist leader Zarqawi in Jordon, the main stream media don't allow you to see it. Why the media is carrying water for these terrorists even as they often attack their hiding place (palestine hotel) in the green zone?
It even goes beyond Hoyer and Pelosi, they are using this old fool because they know he was probably getting Military supply kickbacks for Himself and friends and Family, and they will protect him in the House ethics probe. If we look at the big picture, it is more than obvious how they are putting him way up on their crooked pedestal, so that when the ethics complaints start they can throw out their long thought out statements about the Republicans trying to destroy a great hero because he told the truth about the war. They will sling so much mud and crud the Pubbies will think they are at a Tractor Pull, under the tractors. I can hear them now saying that the Republicans are making up charges to get at this hero, and to make the Charges against Delay look less serious than they really are are. They are as predictable as Sun in Florida.
Right, apparently the next thing to club GWB with is bird flu.
Well, he's the only one in public life who's been raising this alarm for the past couple of months. But they can't deviate from the game plan, so no sail trimming will be seen.
Very interesting to compare Post #112 and #113 for accuracy in media vs spin on Murtha's military career.
I wonder how much time he spent in the boonies in VietNam. Obviously he rose to Colonel during his long service in the reserves.
(One of my uncles was a Lt in the Navy when he left active duty, and retired as a Captain due to his reserve service.)
IF Will said this, he's factually wrong. There is no comparison and America could care less about creating an empire. We DO realize we are the lone remaining superpower, and act like it, but we could care less with taking over other countries.
Well, they'll always have Bob Beckel.
Morning, jealous rodguy911. ROFLOL
Agreed
I'm sick of men like Mutha, McCain, Kerry who use their military service like some great honking badge of honor we all have to bow down to.
We all serve in our own way, and that service no matter what it is can be and often is a greater service to our nation than military service. Military service is not the be all and end all of honorable service. It is one, and can be a good one, but there are many -- I know too many, we know too many -- who where dishonorable before they served, while they served and after they served. Kerry comes to mind, as a public example. We also know men and women who served very honorably, yet in later life became ammoral, corrupt, vile.
It is not what you do and it is never what you have done, it is always what you are NOW. Is a person now honorable?
It is helpful to remind a person how has taken some dubious current undertakings of the times he/she was more honorable, or to point out honorable deeds done by others -- but to me, honors should stop there. We all have lives. Lives to life. Not lives that have already have been lived.
Except for the dead and seriously wounded on battlefields -- those I will always find occassion to honor.
It looks like he was 'active duty' for 1 year in Viet Nam and several years prior to joining the Reserves. From Wikipedia (FWIW):
He left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marines during the Korean War. There he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal. He rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He then was assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In 1959, then Captain Murtha took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in Vietnam in 1966-67, receiving the Bronze Star with Combat "V", two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He remained in the Reserves until his retirement as a colonel, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
You are SO right. The Democrats are positioning themselves for the future as we withdraw anyway.
