He is from the Southwestern part of PA. Coal and steel making country. Translation. Heavily unionized.

Murtha's 12th district is coal mining country, and consists mainly of Reagan Democrats. They are NASCAR loving, gun loving, beer loving, country rednecks. The area has a higher proportion of men and women enlisted in uniform than any other district in the state.
