You know what, this is the same guy who wanted the draft and his biggest supporters are mil and Lockheed, Boeing... that's what this is about. The troops will tell you, the older stuff works better than the new... whether weapons or not. Why isn't he doing a bill on what they need? He has been saying this crap (with Pelosi) for 3 years.

I ask, if he wants to take them out, what's the point of sending them back in or redeployment? This isn't a two year old who's acting up... this is serious business. This guy can't believe this.

The "NO" Vote - Peterson, Murtha Screw Our Soldiers
http://www.seamuspress.com/archives/rep_john_murtha/

Excerpt:
Peterson wasn't the only Pennsylvania legislator opposed to the pay raise for soldiers. Murtha (D) not only voted against it but he also argued against it on the floor. Murtha also voted to raise his own pay (but didn't even bother to change it afterwards). I suppose that adding to their individual wealth is more important to them than helping out the soldiers they put at risk (remember both of these hypocrits supported the war).

I find his decision interesting (not just because he gave it with Pelosi either); Check out who his top contributors have been, then go to top industries and to the 2005-2006 profile:
http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/allcontrib.asp?CID=N00001408

From Murtha's website:

Congressman Murtha has worked hard to bring thousands of long-term, family-sustaining jobs to Western Pennsylvania. With the disappearance of the coal and steel jobs that for more than a century were the lifeblood of the area, he pushed the region in a new direction, intent on diversifying the economy to help insulate it from future shocks. In the early 1990s, new companies in an industry unfamiliar in Western Pennsylvania - defense - began to spring up, bringing more than 5,000 jobs to the district he represents. He founded the House Steel Caucus and has brought millions of dollars to the United Mine Workers to retrain displaced miners and train new miners.

The above is from his web site. He represents the defeated, rotting industrial heart of Pennsylvania. Losing is an attitude. What pet pork project did his district not get? There has to be something really interesting to this flip flop. (From another thread)
