Bass calls for new GOP House leadership
New Hampshire Union Leader ^ | November 16, 2005 | Staff

Concord — Five-term Republican Rep. Charles Bass said this week his party’s leaders in the House of Representatives are more concerned about their own pet projects than the GOP’s "fundamental principles."

Bass, co-chair of a group of about 35 moderate House Republicans called the "Tuesday Group," is calling for new elections in leadership next year "so we have a fresh slate of officers outside of the speaker for the next session of the Congress."

His comments came in interviews yesterday with the New Hampshire Union Leader and on Monday with Boston radio station WBUR-FM.

He said he is not interested in running for a leadership post himself and was not specifically calling for anyone in leadership to be "thrown out." He also said he has no specific action in mind to try to force a vote.

This little pipsqueak is, unfortunately, my congressman. He is so far back on the back bench that he needs Horton to hear him there in Whoville. He is the epitome of a RINO.

ROFLMAO!! Majority minority leader. That would be him. And the other RINO turkey from NH is part of the group, too.
Like, someone said, it would be funnier if it wasn't true.

I've been hoping for some new republican leadership that is truely conservative republican.
Small less intrusive govt.
Less spending.
Guess it just isn't going to happen.
These babosos are going to keep spending my money like an estranged wife.

My condolences to you. I have Rep. Bradley on the other side of the state. But, both Bradley and Bass voted AGAINST the ANWR oil drilling ... what the "F" were they thinking! Oh well, at least Bass is a (R) on the roster.

That's about the only good thing I can think of to say about him.

Did I not see this man on Fox telling me that ANWR was taboo? He should be keel-hauled!

We sure don't need "a group of about 35 moderate House Republicans" to lead the House.

I would not be suprised if these "moderate" rinos pulled a "jeffords" hissy fit and left the Republican Party en masse to throw the majority to the demorats.

I did go back to that thread and post your response for the correction.

Somewhere, on another thread, it was said that Soros was financing these "moderates". Does anyone have links to support this?

Today, Charlie Bass (New Hampshire) and Mark Kirk (Illinois) have assumed the leadership responsibilities for the Tuesday group during the 109th Congress. They intend to build upon the long and dedicated work of Mike Castle (Delaware),Fred Upton (Michigan), and Nancy Johnson (Connecticut) in past years. They are preparing for the future with enthusiasm and energy. They've created new letterhead for the organization. They've recruited new members from both current Members of Congress and those in the class of 2004.

For a number of years, the Tuesday Group has served as the casual caucus of pragmatic Republicans in the House of Representatives. Then, former Congressman Amo Houghton founded the Republican Main Street Partnership to serve as the external and political operations of this group. Today, Castle serves as the President of the Partnership while Congressman Upton, Sherry Boehlert (New York) and others serve on the board. Thus the transfer of leadership in the Tuesday Group is meant to enhance and expand the work of both organizations. ...

Welcome back! As we begin the new Congressional session there is much to update you on. We had a very successful campaign season. RMSP members saw victory in 13 of our 17 targeted races. We picked up two RMSP freshman in seats previously held by conservatives, and the seats we lost went to Democrats, proving the importance and value of moderate Republicans. We have increased our presence in the Senate to 12 members and given the current environment in the Senate, moderate members will be the critical swing vote on several key issues coming up this year. ...

Many RMSP Members hold leadership positions within the House and Senate. In the House there are 4 full Committee Chairs and 26 Subcommittee Chairs, and 7 full Committee Chairs in the Senate. The level of seniority and leadership of RMSP Members continues to increase and will help us propel the moderate agenda.

We welcome a new member to the RMSP team. Kirk Walder, former House Ways and MeansSubcommitteeStaff Director, hasjoined the staff of Republican Main Street Partnership as the Policy Director. Walder brings 20 years of experience in Congress to his new position. He also brings a wealth of policy experience and a strong history in centrist politics to our organization. He helped found the original RMSP then known as the 92 Group. His commitment to a centrist agenda is clear, and RMSP will greatly benefit from his instincts and skills.

We need to draw up a contract that all Pubbie candiates will be asked to sign, a contract that'll weed out any RINOs. And if candidates won't sign and abide by what they've signed, we need to find candidates who will.
