I tend to agree. When one assesses the progress that has been made since the 8th century in reforming/enlightening Islam (of course, who has tried?) there is little reason for optimism.It is exceedingly difficult for Muslims to reform themselves, for how can the brainwashed enlighten the brainwashed?

This is because any Islamist equivalent of Martin Luther winds up decapitated before his message of reform can spread.

I appreciate logical voices like yours for the intellectual dismantling of Islam rather than the crude yells of " kill the bastards" which really leave you no choice but distancing yourself from the person. I know once Islam is revealed for what it really is (spare me the "glorious" past !!) the Islamic mainstream that provides cover for the terrorists will simply find some new hobby.
