I often read that Mexicans are paid half normal wages in the US. Certainly they are hard workers. I live in chicken country, and almost all the people who turn live chickens into fryers are Mexicans. I assume that they don't make a lot of money doing this.

However they come in day after day with wads of $100 bills, buying cell phones, karaoke machines, giant stereos and iPods...things I don't have the budget to afford. And I know they are sending part of their income back home to Mexico. One way or another, they are taking home more $$$ than I am. Are they paying taxes the same as I do? I don't know.

On the plus side, most of them seem to be very nice folks. On the minus side, they are monopolizing the service industries and they aren't learning English. Would I rather have them here than Islamofascists? You bet. They are good people. Yet here they are, often undocumented, living among us and enjoying a great life, having completely bypassed any normal and legal entry into American life. And they are here to stay. Better get a Spanish dictionary, you'll need it to do business in America.

in prior generations an immigrant to USA had to pass a minimum health check, have a minimum amount of ID, have a sponsor that would support the immigrant..

As a person in health care we are importing many with chronic diseases that were never a problem in USA..Multidrug resistant TB for one. Hepatitis for another
the cost of treating the imported diseases will have a major impact on tax dollars as well as the health of our Nation..
Cheap vegetables, cheap lawn care, or cheap construction labor will not offset the coming healthcare disaster..
This is a silent problem that at some point will become a major disaster unless we get control of who comes here.(bird flu, ebola, dengue fever, west nile fever- the list is endless )We can only reduce or prevent these diseases with a secure border and enforcement of immigration laws. None of which our President seems very interested in doing, the GOP will sink on this issue.

My best friends wife is an apartment manager here in Indianapolis, and recently was sent to learn Spanish so she could better deal with the large number of Hispanic residents. There are also certain areas here in town where you drive down the street and all you see are business signs in spanish.
