OK, the family expert and Playstation-addict recommends Ghost Recon II, Grand Theft Auto, Fellowship of the Rings, and Operation Phoenix. But if you like, he has many other recommendations that he thinks soldiers would like; freepmail me for details. Most of the games I got were purchased on the recommendation of a friend of the family who is a game designer, and they've proven to be great investments.

Thanks! I went ahead and with your advice and Izzie's got 8 games, including the first three on your list.
Could you xerox and mail me the instructions for Fellowship of the Rings or fax them to me?
FReepmail me if this is possible. Two of the cheap ones I got don't have instructions with them.

They probably had to get their supply pipeline in order. I remember being at Incirlik AS, Turkey in the early 80's, and the only pants you could get at the BX were $40 Levi 501's and dress slacks from Alexander's of London, at about $70 a pair. Nothing for us broke SSgt's. The Levi's had a lot of resale value downtown, from what I heard. It took about two years of complaints before they got anything else...just as I left for stateside.
That said, I bet most of the guys would play an Atari 2600 and be happy to have it. Anything to give them something to do when there is nothing else to do will do nicely. They won't complain about newer and better, either, of course.

Bookmarked for future reference of all the good suggestions.
They won't get them all for Christmas but eventually most will go.
THANKS!

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 Playstation 2 game 13.99 GREAT game, but see other Tom Clancy review...but they could get to practice their "squad based" skills here where it's safer...
Oh, well....

Talked to my daughter who plays 24/7, says Rainbow Six 3,Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Forza Motor Sport, Battlefield 2 Modern Combat. Course she only plays Halo 2 online on the XBox because that's where her friends are.

ooops....my bad. I wasn't paying attention enough.
The problem with GR II is it didn't translate as well from X-Box...gets a bit jaggy. A little sluggish too.
That beinmg said, they'll still have a good time with it...just not as good as some of the others.
Sorry....it's late.

Just wanted to come out of lurking to add a suggestion I hadn't seen.
GameSpot Information Page on Freedom Fighters
A definite sleeper game that never got a ton of press (thus it should be fairly inexpensive). It has a good story, excellent character AI and, plenty challenging gameplay. Also has a relatively open playing experience and isn't linear like a lot of games. The only "cons" I can think of is I didn't much care for their third person view (it's not as good as GTA's 3rd person IMO but, it doesn't kill gameplay) and multiplayer is pretty limited in options (of course, PS2 having only 2 controller ports already limits it).
Best of all, there is nothing like killing a Commie for mommy!

For PS2, I suggest Jak II and Jak 3, the Ratchet & Clank games (particularly Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal), anything Madden, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, Soul Caliber II, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, memory cards, and a multi-tap adapter. Also, since PS2 is backward compatible, it can play all PS1 games.
For Xbox, Halo and Halo 2 (don't forget the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack), Dead or Alive Ultimate, Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball, Ninja Gaiden Black, anything Madden, anything Splinter Cell, Project Gotham Racing 2, and four controllers (Xbox can play 4 controllers by itself, and its internal hard drive negates the need for memory cards).

Gran Turismo 4 would be a good choice. You can play against each other in arcade mode and you are not stuck into huge long day after day scenarios.

My Brother in law is probably a better source of info on PS2, I stick to PC games. I'm still playing Orion Pirates, and it's only 6 years old, but damn if it isn't a fun club to hang out in, and Panzer General 2. That's 9 years old.

SOCOM NAVY SEALS 3 is a must buy. Look for games with online play so the troops can shoot it out with the folks back home.

Call of Duty 2. It's AWESOME!!!
To: patriciaruth
Of the games you suggested, I'd avoid Madden 2004. It's a great game, but it's also based on the 2003 season, and the sports gamers will want something more current so that the correct players are on the right teams. Plus, you can probably find it for cheaper than $6.99 as well.
As for other suggestions:
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (It's multi-player. The more troops playing at once, the better.)
Hunter :The Reckoning Wayward (Like the above, but set in modern times.)
Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore (Fighting Game)
And, one of my favorites:
Katamari Darmacy
It's a game where you run a sticky giant ball over things, making a larger sticky giant ball. It's a bit surreal, but it would definitely take the people watching it minds off the war.
