As desperation climbs and confusion spreads in the drawn-out aftermath of Hurricane Wilma, crowds encircling relief trucks and threatening its workers have forced police to escort supply vans out of hard-hit neighborhoods.
For three straight days, Red Cross relief vans trying to visit victims of Hurricane Wilma have been confronted by unruly crowds.

On Wednesday, an angry crowd surrounded a relief truck entering a neighborhood in Sunrise until police cars escorted volunteers out. The same scene played out in Pompano Beach the next day.

The aggressive encounters have forced Red Cross officials to change the way they distribute aid. They will avoid neighborhoods open to the public and, instead, focus on apartment complexes, mobile home parks and neighborhoods with few entrances, where the flow of those needing aid can be controlled.

However, in Pompano Beach leaders fear desperation will keep vital help from entering their city.
"It's ridiculous to bite the hand that's feeding you," said Mayor John Rayson. "I hope that people wise up; otherwise, we're going to really be chaotic."
The Sheriff's Office, which dispersed frustrated residents Thursday at the Red Cross shelter in Hollywood's McNicol Middle School, blamed the growing tension on rumors that can quickly spread within a community.
"The problem with all of this is just bad information," said Jim Ledjedal, a Sheriff's Office spokesman. "People are frustrated. People are looking for something and they're getting turned away, and that's frustrating. We're telling people to rely on official sources and not listen to rumors."

Exactly. Its easy to judge from the comfort of ones non hurricane devastated armachair.
And hey, Wilma happened a good long time ago. Its time the relief agencies were able to get some sort of an act together!
You sure don't hear as much about Wilma, Rita, or the NE US floods like you do Katrina.... libs couldn't blame those on Bush!
Well, I have been trough MANY hurricanes and floods on the Texas Gulf Coast and we NEVER called FEMA or expected handouts. You always have plenty of time to acquire candles, sterno, gas stoves, flashlights, canned food, water, etc. BEFORE the storm. If it looked like the hurricane would slam into your area, you evacuated, long bumper to bumper traffic jam, worst one I was in, 1983. Hurr. Alicia. Can't blame Bush for that one!
It is miserable living in Texas in August with no AC. When you think about it, no elec. fans, no ice machine, etc. Neighbors took turns going to 7-11 type stores for ice. We took care of ourselves. We cleaned up our own yards of limbs and debris. We helped our neighbors. Not once did we chant....
"We need help"
"It's the president's fault"
"GIMME GIMME GIMME"
Never blamed the government. We knew the score, living in hurricane alley.
Now we are in Southern Cal. and we already bought a bunch of bottled water - earthquake kit supplies! "My momma didn't raise no fool!" old saying.

When I lived there, I hung a crescent wrench by the gas meter for a quick shutoff in case the lines inside the house ruptured.
I told my neighbor about it but he declined - "I am insured for fire but not for quakes." Rumors from the last quake told of some homeowners torching their wreckage as they had the same coverage/lack thereof.
Are people back to work? Are stores and banks open? Do you know the situation there?
I remember the presses hysteria over Katrina. What makes you think they have it correct in this case? There's too little info.

Wife and I were in Sam's Club the other day, saw a 50 pound bag of rice for 20 bucks and 50 pounds of pinto beans for a few dollars more. When growing up dirt poor in the hard scrabble south of 30's and 40's, this would have fed five siblings and I for a month, and we would have been damned glad to have gotten it.
If anyone goes hungry in America today, they are not really hungry, they are just too damned lazy to prepare and eat less than fast food junk.

I think it's both. They left out important info in order to push their agenda. ;)
