Rioters are Muslims, but don't say it

The rioters who have burned out neighborhoods in cities across France for a fortnight are overwhelmingly of North African and Arab ancestry, overwhelmingly young, overwhelmingly male, overwhelmingly cut off culturally and economically from the larger French society -- and overwhelmingly Muslim. But saying they're Muslim is a subject of angry dispute. French officials downplay the religious connections, and some newspapers, particularly in the United States, avoid identifying the rioters as Muslim. For the moment at least, the frenzy may be subsiding. With curfews in Paris and more than two dozen other cities, and a 12-day state of emergency in effect, French authorities reported yesterday a decline in reports of violence. Car burnings fell by nearly half. But vandals attacked a number of sites, including a large store in the north and a newspaper warehouse near Nice. Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, who has taken a hard line on quelling the violence, ordered the deportation of 120 foreigners detained by French police since the unrest began

Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin blames the rioting on "structured groups," apparently euphemism for "Muslim," but French officials say they have no evidence that international Muslim radical groups are involved in promoting the violence.

Why is that Dominique, you can't find Bin Laden in your neighborhood either?

This guy's a total fool to think this just sprung up all by itself at the end of Ramadan. The Aussies break up a cell, the US catches three on the border and hides it, The Jordanians get hit, and this is just a "Civil Disorder" Dominique?

Note to sell.... Run away from any man named "Dominique"...

I'm sure the French overlooked the fact that their last invaders were German Nazis, too.

It's interesting that the mainstream media, for the first time in history, are blaming the French instead of Americans.

I'm sure in WWII, as the German's were streaming across the border, the French were saying, "Don't call them Nazi's, you might make them mad."

France may look at this as an opportunity to use a smaller white flag for surrender.

Personally, I think that if they are still experiencing this exceptional level of violence (400+ cars burned last night down from 1,400 on Saturday) that it may not be that there's a dropped in violence but a change in the priorities of targets. I've read the reports of weapons caches being discovered around the outskirts of Paris as have many FReepers.

If there's still a group committed to violence, even though it's reduced some in number (or there's less cars to burn) it may signal change in how the violence manifests.

Eternal vigilance! Oh wait, this is france. Garcon, one more demitasse!

President Bush has authorized the Joint Chiefs to begin drawing up a battle plan to pull France's chestnuts out of the fire again. Facing an apparent overwhelming force of up to 400 angry teenagers, Mr. Bush apparently doubts France's ability to hold off them off. "If the last two world wars are any indication, I would expect France to surrender to the little pissants any day now," said Bush.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Peter Pace warned the President that it might be necessary to send up to 5 Marines in order to gain control. The general admitted that 5 Marines may be overkill, but he said he wanted to be assured of gaining operational and strategic control within 24 hours of arriving on scene. He stated, however, that although he was having a hard time finding even one Marine volunteer to help "those ungrateful bastards" out for a third time, he thought that he could persuade a few female Marines to do the job before they went on maternity leave.

In an attempt to blend in with the locals, President Bush suggested Gen. Pace
make sure the marines did not take soap, razors, or deodorant with them.

Hey, I've seen female Marines and believe they can get the job done. Just room them together for about six weeks so their menses get in cycle and tell them the Islamists love to suppress women's freedoms. Even worse, they just roll over and refuse to cuddle.

Bunch of dead Islamists.

All these curfews and half measures are going to accomplish is to make the rioters now be more selective with their targeting. They can't indiscriminately burn everything in sight anymore, so they'll sit back for awhile until they can identify something that will likely be a larger target and provide more in the shock value department.

I was going to rent that Team America movie last week, but after one of our networks aired that piece of crap doc 'Bowling for Columbine' I figured I had enough of the Bush bashing for one week.

Honestly, I never saw Bowling for Columbine before, but now that I have, I see the the subject matter (American gun issues) was merely a vehicle for that mindless twerp Michael Moore to veer off in all directions and attack President Bush. Honestly, the guy is mesmerised with Dubya, I think he may secretly have a crush on him.

Yes, I love Southpark! So Team America isn't just mindless Bush bashing then, I'll give it a shot this w/e. Because frankly, if I want to hear mindless Bush bashing, all I need to do is go down to my local for a pint.

Hey now, that's just sick.

Even though I twice voted for the guy who consistantly betrays me I'd never wish him to be in Moore's chicken-greasy clutches. I've heard it reverberated that most of Hollyweird thinks Moore has pushed way past the limits of decency with his last smear and intend to pretend that their away when he comes back looking for distribution of new product tripe.

He's offended the inoffendable. Someone call Guinness.
