It is entirely possible that Mohammed had been sincere when he first began to speak the words that became written in the Koran.

But he was just a man who came into power and was corrupted by power, and who saw a chance to utilize that power for gain.

Many demagogues in history began their path to leadership and power with sincerely held beliefs. Most were corrupted by power.

It is an interesting thing about Jesus that he had within him the ability and the power, and he lived in a time of considerable unrest among the Hebrews - that he could've seized power and been cheered on, and yet he refused temptation. In fact, the Bible makes it a point to tell of how Jesus defied temptation before setting his feet on the path that took him eventually to the cross for our sins.

He was by all measures a remarkable man, and regardless of whether or not you are a secularist or a believer - he is a man that should be honored for his message, because there is much in his teachings for all men (and women) about justice, morality, and righteousness that are worth incorporating into all of our lives.

You're misrepresenting the intent of the author. He's trying to make the point that Islam should be a peaceful and tolerant religion and the militants are perverting it.

Here is a quote from later in the article;

"Scattered across the region are small but deadly assortments of Islamist militants whose narrow and perverse interpretation of the Koran menaces anyone who does not abide by it."

I'm no fan of the tal-i-ban, but we should call a spade a spade and if the author can convince other Muslims that terror is an abomination under the Koran, isn't that a good thing?

We should be supporting these efforts. not kicking them to the curb. Anyone who thinks we can win this war against the terrorists alone and without help from inside the Muslim community is going to get a lot of soldiers killed.

I have a friend who once worked with a guy from Azerbaijan. This former Azerbaijani saw more and more Muslims moved into his town. When the Muslim population was very small they were very nice and cordial. As their numbers grew they became more and more hostile and aggressive. Finally, when critical mass was reached, the Muslims went on the rampage through the town burning down buildings, forcing conversions of any non-Muslims and murdering those that refused. His family literally ran for their lives from the Muslim mob (democracy in action?) down the street. A few of his family members could not run fast enough and their fate is unknown to this day. He was one of the fortunate few to make it.

What happened in Azerbaijan has been happening in Europe. Critical mass has been reached and they are starting their rampage there. When critical mass is reached here in America they will start the burning, the pillaging, the raping, converting, murdering, etc. This is a standard practice of Islam.

The French, the Danes, and others are standing by and watching their country burn down before their eyes. Will America do the same? If our PC government (Fed, State, and local) do the same what will the citizenry do? If we fight back will our government try and stop us from seeing our country destroyed?

It's part of their religion. It is mandated in the Quran that they lie to unbelievers to gain the upper hand. Look up "taqiyya" and "kitman" for more information. Islam is very dangerous.
