Lord of the Fires (French Riots, Day 13)
Special to FreeRepublic ^ | 8 Nov. 2005 | John Armor (Congressman Billybob)

Posted on 11/08/2005 3:48:19 PM PST by Congressman Billybob

The mainstream media seemed to have settled on the sobriquet of “youths” to describe the people who are in their 13th night of burning cars, buildings, and in one instance a handicapped woman, in cities across France. Of course, it is hard to get an exact demographic profile of rioters on the run; however, reports on those who have been arrested are that only 30% are under 21.

Typical of the 2,300 stories on this subject currently available on Google News, is this one from ABC International, posted in written form on the Net on 6 November, entitled “Chirac vows order as French riots spread.”

This two-page article refers to the perpetrators alternately as “rioters” or “youths,” using both phrases multiple times. Not until near the end does the article make any reference to the fact that most of these rioters, in Germany and France, are Muslims.

A half page from the end, after paragraphs about unemployment and desperation, the article does say,

“Authorities say drug traffickers and Islamist militants are helping organize the unrest, via the Internet and mobile phones, among the North and sub-Saharan African immigrant communities who make up a significant part of many suburban housing estates.”

“Despite the worst destruction since the riots started, a police spokesman called for a sense of proportion: "It's 211 districts out of 36,000, so France is not burning.’ ” Perhaps the police spokesman who made this comment has not seen Jack Nicholson in the movie, “Mars Attacks!” who says after the Martians have destroyed the Congress, “Two out of three branches of the government are still functioning, and that ain’t bad.”

None of the reporting on these riots, nor any reporting on riots that have occurred in the US, have dared to mention what is really happening in such events. Each such an event is another proof that in certain circumstances, civilization breaks down into barbarism, as in the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding.

It was a dead, white, French philosopher, Rene Descartes, who wrote, “Cogito ergo sum.” (I think, therefore I am.) These live, non-white, Muslim philosophers have modified that to, “Destruo ergo sum.” (I destroy, therefore I am.)

Sooner or later, the press has to report the truth that what we are observing is a clash of civilizations. Or more accurately, a clash between modern civilization and barbarity. They don’t want to report that. It would undercut their preconceptions. Perhaps they are so untutored in both history and philosophy not to understand that yet. But harsh events when cities burn and people die have ways of educating even the dullest observers.

The average Freeper has drawn the connection between rioting and the breakdown of civilization. The avereage MSM reporter has not. Ignorance, bias, laziness -- choise your reason for the failure of the MSM. But there it is, in front of God and everybody, in the streets of France.

I don't think so. We are not the audience of the press. The American people are not either. The MSM is the house organ of the Dim party. They will report things as the Dim party wants them to be.

The frogs are cracking down. Curfews at midnight.

I guess the 'disaffected youths' will have to start earlier and get the frogs busy enough well before the curfew to be unable to enforce the curfew.

Not to change the subject but I wonder if our soldiers caught or killed a lot of "angry youths" in Iraq today. I also wonder our interrogators have had any luck with "angry youths" at Guantanamo recently. ...And, of course, I wonder if there are any new leads as to where the "angriest youth" of all, Osama Bin Laden is hiding.

Has anyone heard if the curfew is being observed?

I read your headline to be "Lord of the FRIES." Either way, it works.

Islam and Socialism does not mix. France has driven itself into the Turd world through radical Socialism and appeasement and this is the outcome. Hey Jack, you made your nest...

And that, of course, is the other story of this entire intifada - the reporting of the event through leftism's template. Leftism cannot fathom what is taking actually place here and therefore must resort to their same old melodrama of all ills being traced to the evil of western racism and inequality.

The good news is that I actually heard them report on CNBC today that their latest poll shows that 61% of people now get their news from the internet - about all the reporters could say was "Wow!" - and look at each other with the "how much longer are our jobs good kinda look"...

on another front, after all these years I've finally learned why Paris is called the City of Light - /sarcasm

On August 25, 1944 Hitler asked his commanders "Is Paris burning?". Today Chirac has answered in the affirmative.

France has driven itself into the Turd world

Tell you what. Visit their slums, then visit the Bronx. Report back on which is more like the Third World.

What's going on in France is a preview of what's going to happen here if we don't clamp down our borders. It doesn't have to do with 'Socialism' per se, it has to do with their huge anti-social muslim population, something we thankfully don't have quite yet (but will if we're not careful).

Curfews at midnight

Who is going to enforce the curfews if all the tough-talking Frenchies are inside their homes quivering?

Some are not???

"Sooner or later, the press has to report the truth..."

Oh BB, you're such an optimist...

"Perhaps they are so untutored in both history and philosophy not to understand that yet."

...and so generous.

AlGore and John Rangel to introduce "Midnight Basketball" to France in effort to quell unrest.

Or Chirac and De Villepin announce 'Midnight Soccer', with free Brie and grape juice afterwords, to quell unrest.

Yup.

Any pretense of the MSM being objective in the reporting that fills the air waves is just that ... long since gone from the rear view mirror

Thanks for both the "optimist" and the "generous." Actually, the American media ARE beginning to report the French situation accurately. As another poster on this thread correctly observed, 60% of Americans are getting their news dominantly from the Internet.

That means WE are part of the media (broadly defined), and WE are reporting this story correctly.
