What is happening in Europe, I believe, is the escalation of a worldwide religious war that ultimately will spread to every country and every city. Everyone will be forced to become a combatant or a victim. As in most conflicts, it is a small militant minority that drags everyone else into the fracas. I know this sounds far-fetched but I have believed it since the radicals took over Iran in the late '70's.

If they are waiting for this to just peter out, that is a big mistake. In the time it took for this to get started, I will bet that the jihadists have now taken up position with real weapons and not just handguns.
The diversion is just enough to allow them to funnel in with something more than petrol bombs..
