FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Mindy McCready (search) says she still loves the man charged with nearly beating her to death earlier this year, and her two suicide attempts were the result of their troubled relationship.

"I wanted him to be sorry," McCready said Thursday about her boyfriend, William McKnight (search), on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.

McKnight was charged with attempted murder in May after he allegedly broke into the singer's home and assaulted her.

McCready, 29, had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time," but has suffered a series of legal and personal problems in the last year.

During the interview, McCready described the attack

She's still with this abuser. Why do women stay with these losers? She is pregnant with his baby. Dumb and dumber.

I fear for their child that she is carrying. The violence that child may witness if this woman doesn't grow up!

What an unsympathetic character she is. So self-destructive. And she wants us to watch as she circles the bowl.

To answer your question: Because she's hoping he will change or she can change him; she might be afraid of him, her self esteem is so low that she doesn't think she can either do without him or can do any better than him.

People in abusive relationships are so damaged that they interpret abuse as love. Whacked.

Some people are beyond help. It's time for society to let Mindy go.

You watch Judge judy yesterday?

The entire show was about women with abusers as boyfriends - it was crazy. I always wondered how much air could be between two ears and it appears there can be a lot...

If she wants to let him kill her, she has a legal right ... but I think the county should take the child the day he's born and place him, anonymously, with a permanent adoptive family, before he ends up dead, too.

...Mindy McCready..

There is a woman that understands love - LOL. The more black eyes she gets, the more she feels loved.... :)

Rhetorical question - Yes, I've been there - not physically as much as emotionally.

Thank God Almighty I'm Free At Last. It takes a great amount of courage to walk away.

Unlike the old days ... when you loved a person ... this one misses the abuse. Maybe she'll write a song or sing one about - "I can't get enough of your abuse" in place of "I can't get enough of your love".

Some people are beyond help. It's time for society to let Mindy go.

Many women who stay with abusive men were sexually abused by an adult male as a child. They think abuse is love, because that event is frozen in their subconscious.

It's possible for them to improve and break this pattern through therapy, but it does take some time.

An ex co-worker of mine got beat up by her live-in boyfriend so badly (she was 9 months pregnant) he almost killed her. She was in the hospital etc. The baby is OK. He went to jail for 4 years. She waited for him and says she's "deeply" in love with him.

I told her that he will do it again.

She didn't want to hear it.

All I know is that fully developed homosapiens don't feel affection for creatures that try to kill them.

This woman needs therapy to realize that attempted murder and love aren't the same thing?

As a society, we've become a little TOO analytical.

I doubt that Mr. McKnight's next girlfried - the one that purchases him for a pack of smokes in the joint - will look anything like this. Here's hoping there are some country music fans in his cellblock.
