One is tempted to suggest that Prime Minister Sharon send a note cautioning Monsieur Chirac about cycles of violence.

Ouch! That'll leave a mark. Funny, I thought schadenfreude was a german word.

The violence is W's fault. He has angered the good name of Islam and now the West will pay with the blood of our allies. All with the intention to solidify Islam's good name.

*cough*

I'm going to print this out and send it to school with my 15 year old son, who had to sit in class yesterday and watch a film on how great France is and how horrible Bush and the US are. He said the entire film was anti-American and he walked out of the classroom. Before he left he said "I'm not watching this bull Sh*t."
(teacher gave him detention!) She can read this while he sits in detention! By the way, we live in MASS...Liberalism is a prerequisite to getting a teaching job!

the level of social protection is the highest in the world."

It is *precisely* that "level of social protection" that is one of the causes of riots like this.

When you create a society that pays people to breed and have children, but requires no responsibility from those people, and does not require them to work, in a generation you have created a significant minority of savage, amoral males, who welcome violence as a potent way to feel powerful and as an antidote to boredom and irrelevancy.

I'm really surprised that after 8 days of rioting, no U.S. media outlet has been able to get a good close-up shot of the rioters.

I've seen 7 days of blazes and 1 day of cop photos. Hmmm, how puzzling.

I fear it's too late for France. They can apply a few band-aids, but France is mortally wounded. Demographics point to Muslims having the power to control govt. in a few years, so things may simmer along until then, but with foreign mullahs preaching hatred and murder to impressionable 'impoverished youths', I don't think so. Well, no doubt Prince Charles would be delighted to solve the situation. I'm sure he's full of good ideas.

From the full article.........

Car burns in showroom during riots, Aulnay-sous-Bois, near Paris

It's a barely kept secret that Mr. Chirac led the opposition to the Iraq war out of fear of how his Muslim population would react. This fear is a big part of why France portrays itself as America's counterweight and why it criticizes Israel at every turn and coddled the terrorist Yasser Arafat right up to his death. This doesn't elicit thanks from Muslim radicals in France. It turns out to project an image of weakness. Unsurprisingly when faced with some unhappiness they believe they can pressure the French state into submission.

A number of observers of the French scene have looked at population trends and suggested that France is on its way to becoming a Muslim country (one that would, let it be noted, be armed with hydrogen bombs). Some react to this by suggesting a halt to immigration and even expulsion. The better approach is to impose law and order, more speedily to reform the burdensome welfare state, and start integrating the Muslim community. France could also help itself by dispatching troops to help battle the radical Islamists in Iraq, thereby sending a message to Muslims at home and abroad that France is on the side of those Muslims, the majority no doubt, who want to live in peace.

While I agree with the tone of most of this editorial, it unfortunately ends with this sad, politically correct recommendation. Where exactly is the author's model for "integrating the Muslim community"? These vermin must be eradicated, not integrated.

The MSM is missing the big story, which is that the French model of "social protection" failed to eliminate poverty and inequality for millions in France. The dirigste statist model of guaranteed employment, free medical care, and lavish social benefits bred high unemployment, long waits for needed care, and a selfish ethos in which French citizens are only concerned about what's in for them today, the future be damned. Mark Steyn's vignette about a French man concealing his mother's death to continue receiving her benefit check proves the point nicely. Like Russia, France is in a death spiral as a result of socialism and France leaders lack the will to rescue her from it. Islam is a menace to be sure but its not the immediate danger facing the country. Its the very social system French leaders take such pride in that set off last week's explosion, that's in urgent need of fundamental reform. If the French model worked, there should be no unrest in the Paris suburbs. Here the storyline is a graphic refutation of the viability of that model in the sense the pictures convey the reality better than dozens of academic studies. Whether France is willing to reconsider its welfare state depends on the perception the country is at a turning point and somehow, I don't think its near the point where France's leaders have to institute drastic changes to save the country.

I checked out some photos on FOXNews.com. IT's really something. I wonder how long this is going to continue before they REALLY do something about it. If I lived in Paris, I'd be in fear of my life. If they don't put a stop to it now, they deserve what they get and other countries better wake up and smell the coffee before it happens to them, too. I wonder how hard it is to emigrate to Austrailia.
