BROOKS: WHY ARE DEMS SO OVERHEATED? ..Developing
Drudge ^ | 10/29/05 | David Brooks

Posted on 10/29/2005 11:19:26 PM PDT by STARWISE

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald did not find evidence to prove that there was a "broad conspiracy to out a covert agent for political gain. He did not find evidence of wide-ranging criminal behavior. He did not even indict the media's ordained villain, Karl Rove," writes David Brooks in Sunday's NY TIMES.

"Leading Democratic politicians filled the air with grand conspiracy theories that would be at home in the John Birch Society."

"Why are these people so compulsively overheated?.. Why do they have to slather on wild, unsupported charges that do little more than make them look unhinged?

(snip) Brooks quotes from an essay written 40 years ago by Richard Hofstadter called "The Paranoid Style in American Politics."

Hofstadter argued that sometimes people who are dispossessed, who feel their country has been taken away from them and their kind, develop an angry, suspicious and conspiratorial frame of mind. It is never enough to believe their opponents have committed honest mistakes or have legitimate purposes; they insist on believing in malicious conspiracies.

"The paranoid spokesman," Hofstadter wrote, "sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic terms -- he traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization." Because his opponents are so evil, the conspiracy monger is never content with anything but their total destruction."

Brooks summarizes: "So some Democrats were not content with Libby's indictment, but had to stretch, distort and exaggerate. The tragic thing is that at the exact moment when the Republican Party is staggering under the weight of its own mistakes, the Democratic Party's loudest voices are in the grip of passions that render them untrustworthy."

Question: Since Harry Truman, were they ever trustworthy? Did I miss it entirely?

I say the article pretty much surmises the dying convulsion of a very sick party... the really question is aside from the hard left is there anyone willing to try to revive them.

broad conspiracy to out a covert agent

Quit reading here.

No covert agent = no "outing" = no case = the rape of American taxpayers to the tune of $700,000.

I want a refund!

Why are these people so compulsively overheated?

Because they are guilty of that which they accuse others. They are foaming mad because believing the worse of their enemies is all they can do to rationalize their own immorality.

Sanity and their belief systems are inversely proportional. Hence, their paranioa is to be expected.

"Leading Democratic politicians filled the air with grand conspiracy theories that would be at home in the John Birch Society."

I didn't see any leading Democratic politic ans painting grand conspiracy theories. What I saw were leading members of the main stream media painting grand conspiracy theories that proved to be untrue. What I saw was reporter after reporter, saying grand jury sources said Rove was going to be indicted for every possible crime. I saw main stream reporters saying sources close to the investigation said Cheney might be indicted.

In 99.0 percent of the stories the sources were always listed as people close to the investigation or those knowledgeable about the grand jury.Sometimes the sources were those who know what is going on in the Grand jury.

There were few if any sources listed as prominent democrats.

It is a standard media technique.

When the Media gets caught telling lies about Republicans they always say the Democrats made us do it.

What needs to be found out is who kept leaking all this information from the grand jury over the past two years to the liberal news media....

Catch them and put them in jail for life.

I was watching "Heartland" tonight and John Kasich asked Ann Coulter what the best plan would be for the Democrats to beat the Repuublicans.

She said Zell Miller and Pat Caddell should start a new party.

Likely lawyers for those appearing before the grand jury. And it's perfectly legal for them to do so. Only the prosecutor and grand jurors are sworn to secrecy.

The rats today remind me of what Eric Hoffer wrote about in his great book on fanatically political organization's,"The True Believer". All these groups, Commies, the Klan, Nazis, etc. believed that they were being unjustly picked on and there was a group that was their enemy and wanted to destroy them. Thats todays Rats!

Gosh, I can't understand why conservatives might feel that way. Having your rights systematically volated and the Constitution trashed might have something to do with it.

I think it's safe to say that nobody was leaking anything to the media unless they were legally permitted to do so (e.g., a witness who is called before the grand jury is free to tell anyone about his/her testimony).

""Why are these people so compulsively overheated?.. Why do they have to slather on wild, unsupported charges that do little more than make them look unhinged?"

It's all 'payback' for what they perceive was the unfair attacks on their lusty, lying, cheating, America-hating hero, Bill Clinton. They say: "big deal, Clinton lied about a woman, and look what they did to him".

What they fail to see is that any man who will repeatedly cheat on and disgrace his wife and daughter, himself, the Office he holds and the country he represents, will also lie and cheat about other things, including some very important things. If he could hurt and disgrace his own family without conscience, time and again, then he could not be trusted with anything, let alone leading America and the entire free world. He laughs at the stupid constituents who voted for him while they defend him and attack Bush.

They love this weasel Clinton and loved being led by him; this is all we need to know to understand how these people think, and why they hate Bush so much.

ooops...I did say I quit reading after the first sentence.

Now I see the point of the article, however, this was never a story IMO, since there was no covert agent outing. Much ado about absolutely nothing.

Well, maybe nothing that is being investigated and exposed anyway. The demonRATS are searching high and low to get anything at all to try and impeach the President on. The new whisper campaign about the "culture of corruption" comes to mind. Tell a lie often enough it becomes truth.
