A former Khmer Rouge commander convicted in February of the 1994 murders of three Western backpackers but on the run from authorities was arrested in Cambodia, an official told AFP.

Cambodia's Supreme Court ordered one-time guerrilla Chhouk Rin jailed for the abduction and murder of an Australian, Briton and Frenchman earlier this year but authorities had not managed to capture the 51-year-old.

"He was arrested this afternoon (Tuesday) at 1:00 pm (0600 GMT) in Oddar Meanchey province," interior ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said.

Chhouk Rin was arrested in Trapeang Prasat district in northwestern Anlong Veng -- one of the final strongholds of the remnants of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime -- and was due in Phnom Penh Wednesday, the spokesman said.

He was held by authorities overnight in Siem Reap, the gateway town to Cambodia's famed Angkor Wat temple complex.

"We will ask for a warrant to send him to jail for life tomorrow," Khieu Sopheak told AFP. Police had so far only been issued with an arrest warrant from the court for the fugitive.

"dispose of remains in rice-field."

After the rats, ants and birds have a few days.

Kill him. Slowly.

I do not think there has been a worse crime committed, ever, then those crimes that were committed in Cambodia.

Yes, and it could have been avoided if those so-called "peace activists" had not created the atmosphere that resulted in us pulling out of Indochina.
