Stretchers at the ready (in U. S. Senate)

It would be nice if we could blame it all on muddle.

It would be nice if government grows because everything's so complex that muddle begets muddle, and governments balloon — "evolve" — out of the booming, buzzing confusion of any mind set out to grasp it. It would let so many people off the hook. We could say, "forgive them, for they know not what they do."

But that's not quite the case.

Recently, a clash first between Senator Patty Murray of Washington and Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, and then a clash between Ted Stevens of Alaska and that very same, persistant Oklahoman, brought the Senate to a rare moment of clarity, where it became obvious for all to see why government grows.

We need some more Dr. Tom's in the US Senate. I am really proud of my Senator for standing up and for some of the others like George Allen for standing with him.

My vote's for Boxer - making this the first time I've ever voted for her for anything!

As an aside, is Senator Stevenson's threat to be taken out of the Senate on a stretcher a suicide threat and therefore a sign of serious mental illness? Has anyone contacted St. Elizabeth's?

Somebody test the Senate drinking water! You got Durbin going off the deep end, Voinovitch crying like a girl about a UN appointment, now Stevens is melting down.

You can thank the Senate campaign committee and the Wash GOP for Patsy Murphy being elected. In her run for first senate term, they purposefully did not back her opponent - a very conservative US congresswoman. She crossed swords with Newt over spending

Nice to see DeWine on the list, will kind of make voting for him in 2006 a little easier to do.

Apparently, as they've threatened, we won't get any progress until men like Stevens and women like Murray are indeed carried out of the Senate on stretchers. Or, less drastically, their near-eternal terms are cut short by term limits.

Our politicians may want, on some level, to balance budgets and even cut spending. But, in every instance where it counts, the overwhelming majority of them support unlimited government growth. Why? Because that's the nature of the system. Because that's what benefits them. Because once in office they begin to see themselves not as our fellow citizens but as the government.

What a muddle, what a mess. Still, we should blame it on them — though not, of course, on Coburn's Dozen.

I immediately thought that either Ted Kennedy bought a new oldsmobile, or Hillary took someone for a walk in the park.

Do you think that pork is what gets people reelected? I could care less if all the old RR sttations are made into transportation museums. Our rep got us $1 milion for main street, but I will still vote against him, as he is a convicted crook. Maybe this conventional wisdom needs exploring and exploding as the myth it probably is.
