Major League Baseball's worst nightmare:
A World Series that nobody on either coast could give a flip about!
Wrong--there are plenty of folks on the Gulf Coast and the Lake Michigan Coast who are ardently following these clubs.
Oh? You meant the All-Star Frankensteinian army of general "teams"? The ones that the sycophantic national media extol constantly, to the point of ignoring other teams that are actually playing better baseball? Well, you're right, the poseurs and frontrunners might not watch this series. But they'd be missing great baseball as it's meant to be played. I suspect the true fans will watch, even those in New York and Boston.

I used to live in KC. We moved to STL the year before Cards vs Royals World Series. I had a Cardinals & Royals batting helmet hanging off the porch.
We go back to KC when the Cards play there and family & friends would like to come here but we always play in KC. I think it is to help KC get more money in.
Our family & friends actually will go to a Cards game here, when we are playing someone else. They say if it can't be the Royals then they cheer the Cards on.
George Brett-Frank White-Hal McGray-Whitey Herzog-Darryl Porter--those were the days!!!!
A few followed us to STL--if we hadn't of moved they would have stayed in KC (LOL)---George Brett never did though!!!
KC is our 2nd home.

George Brett-Frank White-Hal McGray-Whitey Herzog-Darryl Porter--those were the days!!!!Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
George Brett still owns this town ;-)Very sad ending to Porter's life. He was one of my favorites.
Still have my 1985 Royals World Series tee-shirt. It's kinda yellowed with age now. Might have to pass it along to one of my grand-children to wear during our next world series.
We were very fortunate to have Mr K as an owner for so long. David Glass is a cheapskate.

Doubtful, those are the 3rd and 10th largest TV markets. As predicted. Without those New York and LA markets tuning in, the ratings are pretty low:
World Series is lowest-rated ever
October 27, 2005
NEW YORK (AP) -- The Chicago White Sox's first world championship in 88 years was also the lowest-rated World Series ever.
Chicago's four-game sweep of the Houston Astros averaged an 11.1 national rating with a 19 share on Fox. That's down about 7 percent from the previous low, an 11.9 with a 20 share for the 2002 World Series between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants.
While the 2002 World Series, which went seven games, rated higher overall, it was only averaging an 11.0 through four games.
This year was a drop of almost 30 percent from last year's series, in which the Boston Red Sox swept the St. Louis Cardinals for their first title in 86 years. That had a 15.8 rating with a 25 share.
Wednesday night's 1-0 Chicago win had a 13.0 preliminary national rating with a 21 share. It was the highest-rated prime-time show on Fox since the final of ``American Idol'' in May, but still not enough to save the series from being the lowest-rated.
Despite rating so low in comparison to other World Series, the four games of this series were each the highest rated prime-time network programs on their respective nights.

I guessed you missed this line from what you quoted:
Chicago's four-game sweep of the Houston Astros averaged an 11.1 national rating with a 19 share on Fox. That's down about 7 percent from the previous low, an 11.9 with a 20 share for the 2002 World Series between the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants.
That's the LA market, in fact #2 vs. #4. The only markets larger are #1 NY and #3 Chicago, which was involved this year. The last sentence is more telling:
Despite rating so low in comparison to other World Series, the four games of this series were each the highest rated prime-time network programs on their respective nights.

So I was right -- ratings for a World Series were bad.
The fact they beat the other drek on TV isn't saying all that much.
OTOH, I was wrong about Chicago -- damn good team that would have won with or without the blind umps.
Besides, I forgot to gloat about how, no matter what, a World Series without the Yankees is always a good thing! ;)
