SEX WORKERS ON THE MARCH

Men and women working in Europe's sex trade have gathered in Brussels to take their argument for prostitutes' rights to MEPs.

They say it is time to end the stigma associated with the sex industry

The International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe, including members from Britain, held a news conference in the Parliament.

It was urging the 25-nation European Union to end discrimination of the sex industry.

"What we do is work and we want it recognised as that," said Scottish sex worker Ruth Morgan Thomas.

In many European states, the sex industry flourishes in the black market where women are trafficked from outside the EU to work as prostitutes.

Their passports are often stolen to prevent their escape from sex slavery.

Prostitution is legal in some EU states and tolerated in most European countries, but laws on prostitution and the legal rights of sex workers vary across the EU.

The sex workers said regulating the sector would curb exploitation and boost prostitutes' willingness to pay tax in return for rights and social protection.

Camille Cabral, representing French sex workers and wearing pink stickers reading "Sluts Unite" and "Whore Power", said it was time to end the stigma associated with the sex industry.

"You shouldn't hide yourselves, you shouldn't be ashamed," she said. "All societies should accept and give (the same) sort of statute to this profession as to any other."

The sexworkers' union is telling MEPs that because some countries do not recognise their trade, governments are breaching their human rights and EU law.

But some police forces are concerned that the trafficking of vulnerable women could rise to meet increased demand if prostitution was made legal

I'm sure Hilliary would support this.

Hey, the EU was supposed to remove all trade barriers within the member states, so it's not surprising the hookers would be lobbying for no barriers to the state of the member.

Actually this debate started several years ago in Amsterdam.

Prostitution was not legal, but widely ignored by the authorities at the time.

There was a big outcry about making it legal.

So they did... and started making the prostitutes pay taxes too!!!

They wanted the health care benefits and the like, so they also got the obligations that go with it!

I predict prostitution will be around long after science renders childbirth/procreation obsolete.

The "oldest" profession will also be the last profession.

If I had been stranded on an island all alone for 50 years, I would still say "NO FREAKING WAY" to that.
