I have Verizon DSL as well. Their router/modem is supposed to have a firewall. When you download their software a icon goes on your desktop for support.
They have a outlined step-by step program for you if you intend to go completely wireless.

I've found their support ranges from pretty good to fair.

Check the DHCP list for computers other than yours and you will know who is logged on....Most people name their computer so you may be able to get an idea who it is...

Then institute WEP.....

But first, hit them up with a deal so they'll pay you for the use of your wireless router.

Say, $30 a month for the new password. Or they can get their own high speed access.

Is that where they've been going? What's your address I'll send someone by to pick them up. I hope they are still in usable condition! LOL

a good wireless switch may have instrumentation to show how many PC's are connected, and/or could be restricted to dole out only one IP via DHCP, or perhaps only to you specific MAC addresses (even better!)... (i conjecture that such a switch exists, don't know for sure)

I have a Linksys AP that supports MAC filtering - you can either whitelist or blacklist MAC addresses. It also does WPA with TKIP and AES encryption. If you're really paranoid, Linksys will happily sell you a RADIUS solution along with it as well ;)

Most wireless routers have a list of connected addresses you can view. If you know you have two computers, and you see three...then someone is piggybacking on your connection!

What's the difference between a user and an IT guy.

The IT guy knows how to RTFM.

That's why we earn the big bucks.
