A battle has erupted over who governs the internet, with America demanding to maintain a key role in the network it helped create and other countries demanding more control.
The European commission is warning that if a deal cannot be reached at a meeting in Tunisia next month the internet will split apart.

Not at all, if it split, I'll call the new entity Eurasia-net, it would not be a huge deal to set up "converter" sites that connect to both, converting everything on the fly. You might even have both "protocols" in your own PC. You MIGHT need two browsers, but probably not. It could slow things down.

It would be no worse than the NTSC/PAL/SECAM thing with television.

This story completely contradicts their story of only last week, which stated conclusively that "the world community" would be definitely taking control of the internet:
