Bill Kristol: While House Indictments Coming

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol predicted on Sunday that there will be at least one and perhaps several indictments of "senior [Bush] administration officials" by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, who is investigating the outing of CIA employee Valerie Plame.

"Criminal defense lawyers I've spoken to who are friendly to the administration are very worried that there will be one or more indictments in the next three weeks of senior administration officials," the influential editor told "Fox News Sunday."

"Just looking at what Fitzgerald is doing and taking him at his word as a serious prosecutor here," Kristol said, "and I think it's going to be bad for the Bush administration."

FNS co-panelist Brit Hume noted, however, that at least some of the speculation that top Bush adviser Karl Rove may be indicted has been based on false reports in the press.

Noting ominous-sounding press reports on Thursday claiming that Fitzgerald had withdrawn a previous assurances that Rove's testimony would not be used against him during an upcoming fourth grand jury appearance, Hume said: "My information is that there was never any such promise attached to his earlier testimony either."

I'm glad Newsmax is posting this article from today's show...

I got the impression that Kristol was talking out of speculative "wanting" than any real evidence....he was also discussing how bad Bush failed by picking Harriet Miers...so I think he is just "piling on" his vitriol...

And, it is easy for these pundits to get on TV and say they have "sources close to the White House"...

I was surprised that Bush people were giving info to NYT reporters and such.

If I were in charge of White House communications Gen Russ Honoree would be the White House Spokesman and he would have total authority to kick out the Helen Thomas wing of reporters.

If there were an indictment of Scooter Libby, I don't think that would hurt much. Rove would be more problematic. Although there is some advantage to having all the bad news piled on at once -- it's like flooding New Orleans the 2nd time, nobody really cares all that much because it just damaging already destroyed goods.

That Ronnie Earle wannabe may indict Rove, but he'll never lay a hand on him. Karl will leave Fitzgerald with a handful of air. Nixon's downfall was that people jumped ship and tried to cut their own deals. Bush's guys are tougher and will stick with each other. Just remember, keep on fighting and don't abandon whoever gets indicted. Look to Tom Delay as an example of how to fight this. The GOP will Sink or swim together. Look to Tom

Leaking to the NYT by any White House person should get them fired. I suspect there may well be indictments.

There's no excuse for that. I don't care how ticked off he is.

Nobody will remember if he is wrong. If he is right, he gets a bump in pay and his own TV show on MSNBC as the latest Bush-basher. I think you might be right about that. At the end of the day, maybe that's all that matters to him. Or it's what matters most. Just crazy.

Quick, quick, attack "barking moonbat" "elitist" "snob" Kristol!

He is a fool.

You bookmark this thread, because he is wrong and I will ping you to come back here and acknowledge it.

Kristol, a McCainiac, is now actively working against this White House and administration.

Bill Kristol? is he the one who looks over his shoulder
constantly? No, that's Birnbaum.....

I watched that show this morning and Kristol was his normal
weak self. i expect indictments, maybe Rove for "perjury"
but as far as a scandal? Please, the VP chief of staff?
Who is the VP?

Agreed. From my understanding/recollection of the news reports over the past several months, Rove should only get indicted if the prosecutor was trying to stir trouble... which is why I'm concerned -- Kristol smoking or not.

He really is.

I just watched him on Fox News Sunday and I swear he's twitching in anticipation of something bad happening to Bush.

The fact is irregardless of if indictments come down or not - The overall fact is it is meaningless - The MSM will spin and scream this is the end of GOP control, etc, etc -

But the fact is the general public doesn't care about situations like these - Nor will any indictment lead to any conviction -

So irregardless to what this prosecutor decides to do - The GOP will add to their majority in 06 and GWB will continue to be an effective leader (no matter what silly spin the MSM & DEM's try and put on it).

The American people just don't care about silly cases (scandals) like these - They know much politics is behind it (on either side) - Just as the public didn't care about Whitewater or Travel Gate, etc, etc -

Kristol is bound and determined to remain relevant..in a liberal MS world...this is his way of showing his true colors.

I always found his to be supercilious and vain. Not the kind of guy Bush would hang out with. Nor would I.

If this is true, then Fitzgerald is another Ronnie Earle type prosecutor, or like the guy who indicted Cap Weinberger just before the 1992 elections. Valerie Plame wasn't covered by the statute, and Rove didn't reveal her name, and Cooper had already heard what Rove said from other sources...so the only purpose in indicting Rove would be to inflict political damage on Bush (cf. the DeLay indictment).

More likely, McCainiac Kristol is talking through his hat again.
