Not put up anyone ELSE? That is ridiculous- there's no WAY he would do that.
This all seems a bit out there- though it's certainly possible Ms. Miers may decide this is too much- just heard Scalia say he wouldn't want to go through it again..not now.

He's worked all this time to put somebody on the court and now that he has the chance, he's going to wait a year -- not to mention give Sandra Day O'Conner the chance to vote on partial birth abortion?
I think not.

It would explain a lot. It would reveal what some have suspected: a decidedly vindictive streak.

I have no idea of the validity of PD's source. But I will say this LOUDLY and say it anytime it needs to be said:
IF SHE IS WITHDRAWN (unknown at this time) AND THE PRESIDENT DOESN'T PUT ANYONE UP....IT WILL BE BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANYONE WHO IS WILLING TO ACCEPT THE JOB.
I am so frustrated that people don't seem to understand that PO, JRB, ML and the rest may NOT WANT THE JOB! Just because we want them to sit up there and get their lives trashed doesn't mean that we can force them to.
Yeesh! Get a grip people. I am really angry about this today. It is so flipping stupid.
Just how hard is that to understand? So the President decides to protect Miers because she is going down...and let O'Connor finish the term because it isn't urgent. That seems realistic.
But...we just don't know at this point.
